  1. These CDs (on Overture) are bootlegs, I've also never seen volume 5 on CD.
  2. I don't have the Charly CD, but remember it contains, e.g., one side of the Percy Sledge Jr 45 on South Camp, which is not on the LPs (probably because it's not very good!) and an unissued track from another artist which is not on the LPs.
  3. Many brilliant tracks indeed on these 5 volumes. Volume 5 was the last, even though Charly did release another CD compilation with tracks from the LPs and one or two tracks not on the LPs. I think many of the unissued tracks were issued first on Japanese LPs. Currently many of the tracks are available on CDs from Soulscape (Bill Brandon, Tony Borders) and Shout (Don Varner).
  4. Hasn't it got something to do (if I remember correctly) with the ending of the distribution of Stax by Atlantic in 1968? Before the deal was ended the original designs for Stax (blue) and Volt (black/red with lightning flash in the middle) were used, after the deal had ended older Stax titles were repressed on Green labels and Volt titles on multi-coloured labels with a different design (for which the first scan is a white demo)?
  5. The copy on ebay last week went for around $125, one or two years ago a copy (in better shape) was sold for about the same price on ebay.
  6. What's a realistic price for Fabulettes on the green Kangi label? I might have one for sale.
  7. Probably it's Huey Smith & The Clowns indeed on this Ace subsidiary (given also the Smith writer credit). Vocals sound like they could be by Pearl Edwards and Curley Moore who both sang with The Clowns.
  8. Both volumes are now back in stock at dustygroove...
  9. Not an answer to the original question, but both sides of the 45 can be found on the recently released, highly recommended, "The Birmingham Sound Vol. 2" CD. https://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=7cd...p;ref=index.php Apparently these tracks were recorded at the same session at FAME in Muscle Shoals as his Amy and Atlantic 45s (even though the SOB label says Sound Of B'ham Studio).
  10. Here are two others missing in the discography: His White Cliffs 45 is great indeed, fully agree with the other comments on this 45. And here's a nice 45 by Bobby Marchan (with a reworking of his earlier Volt recording), preceding in the River City discography the Tommy Ridgley 45 for sale
  11. Thanks, it indeed looks like it belongs to that 70s reissue series. However, on the back cover there are two Japanese names at the art/cover deisgn credits (no other clues for a Japanese origin). The back cover contains the Nashville address as on the label pictured. So perhaps this is again a (legit) reissue of a Japanese LP? Or a Japanese LP after all? Did John Richbourg issue any other LPs in this particular Seventy-Seven series?
  12. Does anyone know what the origins are of this LP? Is it the Japanese LP binsy is referring to? Or a bootleg? Or a legitimate release from the 70s?
  13. For those into southern soul, here's an amazing story w.r.t. 60s soul man Lattimore Brown, thought to be deceased long ago, but recently found by Red Kelly: https://redkelly.blogspot.com/2008/06/latti...t-this-way.html Equally worth reading is the follow-up to the story: https://redkelly.blogspot.com/2008/07/latti...o-zil-9005.html

Hasn't the white demo been booted? How can you detect if it's a genuine one?
  16. This Tropics is a white rock group, probably no relation to any soul group of that name if that answers your question?
  17. On the Malaco CD box it's actually an earlier version of "I Can't Go Wrong" that's included (a good one I think!), rather than the Capitol version . This version was issued on Rise 1001, which has the not so exciting "Simon Says" on the other side. All Eddie Houston sides are however available on "Soul Chant", a recent Soulscape CD: https://www.garryjcape.com/sscd7006.htm Grapevine/Soulscape has released many great Malaco tracks on CD, mainly on "America's Most Wanted" vol. 1/2/3 and "Troubled Waters" (all deleted now).
  18. Malaco 901 - Cozy Corley - Warm Loving Man Here are some other early Malaco releases:
  19. This track will also be on an Eccentric Soul CD to be released later this month: https://www.numerogroup.com/catalog_detail.php?uid=00645
  20. Lulu's 1970 Muscle Shoals recorded "New Routes" album is great anyway. And wasn't it Lulu's version of "Oh Me Oh My" from that album which inspired Aretha to record her own version?
  21. Wasn't the copy your scan is from on ebay last year? Didn't it end somewhere between $100 and $200? A great track, it has been reissued recently on Numero's Deep City compilation: https://www.numerogroup.com/catalog_detail.php?uid=00320
  22. I don't know if you're aware of this site, documenting Texas soul recordings ... https://www.texassoulrecordings.com/
  23. Reissued recently on the "Eccentric Soul: The Outskirts of Deep City" CD, Numero's follow up to their other Deep City CD compilation, both CDs containing lots of great tracks (several previously unreleased). See https://www.numerogroup.com/catalog_detail.php?uid=00320 for sound clips.
  24. Here's a scan of the other side, as number one in the top 10 most valuable deep soul 45s in Record Collector from a few years ago...
  25. It sounds like it's Zilla Mayes as well on the "Zilla & Jay" 45 "Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall" / "Old Buttermilk Sky" On Abc-Paramount. Anyone knows for sure?
