  2. Not sure, but i have always thought her voice is very similar to the lead on the starlets... "Loving You Is Something New"Also on Chess records. rob h.
  3. Sad to hear this, one of the great singers who can really belt out the tunes, Mama He Treats Your Daughter Mean, one of the best RnB tunes ever. rob h.
  4. a nice little known tune from miss crawford is Dont Get Caught (in loves triangle) on Columbia records from 1973 rob h.
  5. have to agree, another top group, very hard to pick out best tracks as you always think of something else to add to it, again like the dells this group cuts it on all levels. Also had the pleasure of seeing them in the early seventies when love train had just done it for them, i seem to remember them doing some of there Neptune output but the memory is a little shakey now. rob h.
  6. tent music, the name derives from the blackpool weekenders where the 70,s / crossover music was played in the Marquee, hence tent, bloody cold in there it was too on occasions, i understood crossover to mean music made around the late sixties to early seventies where the production values were not out and out smooth productions like the philly sound nor were they the mock motown sound that was preavelant in the sixties, Nolan Chance i,ll never forget you on Thomas is a good example. but different people have there own views, at the end of the day there are only good or bad records, we get hung up on catorgorising too much. rob h.
  7. Love it rob h.
  8. without doubt, they have a song for all moods, and a sound to send a tingle through you, and dont get me started on marvin juniors voice. rob h.
  9. the Jimmy Radcliffe is an alternate version on DJM, if you listen and compare to the Stateside version they have a totally different feel, this could well be the Bert Burns connection? rob h.
  10. ok, the games up, after telling everyone i am far too young to have gone to Yate, some bugger puts a picture of me up, gosh i look young there and a lot slimmer, reading the stories about exhausts falling off, i remember one time coming home to Malvern from Yate in my old Ford Escort van, when the fan belt broke, we ground to a halt and everyone piled out, i got Gill Thomas to take her tights off and i used them as a fan belt to get us back home (true story) although gill wasnt too impressed when i offered her her tights back. Happy days, i remember selling Hippo a copy of the Leaders on Blue Rock out in the car park at yate and he only played it to me at the coppertops a few months back, cheers mate. rob h.
  11. would love a kareem myself, crazy beat records had some copies of the david sea 45, give em a ring. rob h.
  12. i have to say, as good as" Live up to what she thinks" is, "Girl have pity" on the other side takes it for me, pure soul perfection. rob h.
  13. A really good version, not sure of its rarity, got mine in a soul pack years ago so there must be quite a few more out there, not techy enough to do a soundfile, but if you have no luck i could get my old mate Loydee to do you one. rob h.
  14. Totally agree, however, the vast majority of punters who turn up at soul do,s expect to hear them, and they always fill the floor, they pay the money so as dj,s we should give them what they want, frustrating but true. rob h.
  15. Juddy, they are just pop records that have the right sound, some better than others. rob h.
  16. Pete, Francis Tee should have his details, give him a ring. rob h.
  17. Joe Simon.....Fire Burning had a UK release on Polydor, and its from the LP Get Down, my favorite slowie from him on Spring has got to be Georgia Blue. rob h.

  21. Funny one this, most of the tunes listed go well at our charity soul nights frequented by "normal" punters, when played at our Northern nights, Coppertops, they invariably clear the floor. rob h.
  22. Absolutely, everytime i hear the opening bars of this on the radio, the hand reaches for the volume, total feelgood tune that never ages to me. rob h.
