Culture, Sub-culture....or Not
A subculture is a group of people with different behavior and beliefs that distinguish them from the larger culture of which they are a part. So NS is a sub culture. A very profound thread

Will Things Be Better When We Die
'Will Things Be Better When We Die' Not for me it won't In all seriousness there are merits for all the arguments I've seen. However in the UK it is very apparent that without 'new blood' the scene will eventually disappear. In the last 5 months I've been to Cleethorpes, Stoke, Northampton, Bisley, Luton, Northampton, Wellingborough and more and the average age is probably 40 - 45. Its inevitable that as time progresses there will be less people around. I know when I was ( a lot ) younger I would never want to go to a place where the people were the same age as my parents!! Comments about handbaggers etc will only further put newcomers off. Unless attitudes change and there is an acceptance of all types of soul then certainly here in the UK I cannot see the scene surviving. Essentially it is still an underground scene with only a minority appeal.

Modern Versus Northern. An Irrelevant Debate?
You are right this is an irrelevant debate. "The thrust of my argument is that I believe no one has the right to retrospectively redefine what Soul music is" Who is trying to redefine it? Very presumptious to assume people are trying to alter history. You answered yourself in your original post, 'Soul music simply evolved'. Its really a question of personal choice which style of soul music you prefer.

Dave Howard On Ebay
Hi Linda, Thanks for the overview of the Popcorn scene. Its something I did not really know about or understand. After listening to Dave Howard,(again) in case I was too harsh the first time, I have to say this is not for me. (And thats polite ) Each to there own but this leaves me cold. If this is soul (and that was the q in the original post) then as the shepherd said 'Lets get the flock out of here' Cheers Mick

Dave Howard On Ebay
I don't think any one said only Northern soulies are allowed to pay silly money for records. My take it was advertised as a NS record when clearly it wasn't. It could well be a rare Popcorn record but the question in the topic line was "is it really soul?"

To everyone who has recieved their copies thanks so much for the kind e-mails. Thanks for everyone who has sent me a DVD or CD in return. They are all absolutely superb, without exception. Forget the back biting on the scene. This to me is what it is all about. Cheers Mick

That could be the nicest thing anyone has said about me if I knew what Philanthropist meant . I have no problem with the pist part though!! It has always struck me as very strange why the Soul Train series was never released. Surely there is a market for it? Anyway glad you recieved it OK. ATB. Too Late - Williams and Watson- Soul Train:-the 70's
wilson.mpgWith all the interest on video clips and 'youtube' I managed to get hold of a Soul Train video which I've converted to an avi file. It's about 50 mins long and has 15 acts including The O'Jays, Bloodstone, The Moments, Minnie Riperton, Stylistics, Gladys Knight & The Pips, and more. The quality is NOT up to DVD standard but is viewable. (It's nearly a 30 yo tape! but I've included a short sample of Al Wilson singing Show and Tell so you can judge yourselves.) As a historical video its well worth watching, and the fashions are superb. Anyway as long as the Moderators are OK with this I'll send the first 20 Soul Sourcers to reply the full video on CD. PM or email me at xcv7413@btinternet.com Don't forget your name and address so I can send it on! Cheers Tabs - Soul Train:-the 70's
