Why is it a stupid statement? It's a valid question isn't it? If the answer is that they are all legitimate why get steamed up? You answered "Of course not" which confirms the point. If Goldmine/Anglo are out of business does that stop the question being asked? I was simply asking whether or not the legal licencing of tracks for which A la Carte is being taken to task over also applied to other CD sellers.

In the Butch in Japan video thread, Flynny refers to a "Dave Burton custom job" to explain an alternative vocal to the "Cigarette ashes" backing track. So what were these custom jobs? Any more?

Being a bit of a pedant here, Mal but I think FW was just added as the sountrack for the opening few minutes of the video clip rather than being played. Might be wrong and it doesn't matter one bit anyway - still a fantastic response to all tracks played.

And has this applied to everthing put out by Anglo/Goldsoul (or whatever guise has been used)?

Who's credited with having discovered or played this first?

Yep. There are a couple of "Shelly" labels listed in R & B Indies. one from 701 W. Church Street, Orlando and the other with no address. The Orlando label has one track listed - C L West and the Magnificent Super Souls - "I've just got to keep on loving you/Pt.2" The other listing has 3 tracks, one by Jimmy Conner and the other 2 by The Fasades.

There's a myspace page for him but it doesn't look as if it's been active for the last 3 years.

There appears to be 2 differently produced versions which may account for the different takes. One by Smokey Robinson and the other by Norman Whitfield. The Smokey produced version appears on a Motown CD - "Along came love" Hope this helps.
