  1. Just about sums it up perfectly. Richard was in every sense the main man around this time, and it is wonderful to hear these tracks in this format, just to remind us how exciting an era this was. Well done Pete.
  2. Oops - missed that, price is obviously for ABC issue
  3. All per JM's latest, Mickie Moonshine per ebay
  4. Dave, are we talking about Dunn Pearson who has recorded as Dunn and Bruce Street, 9th Street Exit and the Ponderosa Twins + one, as there is some stuff by 9th Street Exit on Solid Foundation which is shown to have been written by Dunn Pearson Jr and produced by Dunn Pearson, suggesting father and son. Info on the net suggests that Dunn Pearson Jr is a multi talented composer, arranger and producer not only for his own records, but also for movies, television, Broadway etc. He appears to have played on albums by the O'Jays, Stephanie Mills, Teddy Prendergrass, Stevie Wonder, Mtume, Roy Ayers, D'Angelo, Keith Sweat, Gerald Levert etc. Can't make my mind up whether or not its just one person, rather than father and son. Dave, I see you have got the same info from the net
  5. "I'm coming home" has been issued 3 times. Flip to "Promised land" - ABC 10398 Flip to "Where have you been" - Duke 438 A side with "Have mercy baby" on the flip - Peanut 1001

Seem to think we had a Karl Tarleton thread not that long ago. However they will have done some stuff for Jackie Wilson including "I can do better" and they are credited with "Love on a lease plan" - Johnnie Taylor.

Last issue on ebay secured $810 so £500 not a million miles out - currency fluctuations taken into account. JM has it booked at £750
  8. JM has it at £100. An acetate of it went for a ton on ebay in 2005.

Nothing controversial, no mind blowing, previously unknown information, no nirvana moment. Just the realisation that a record that I have not heard for 30 years or so, until yesterday - "Nothing worse than being alone" - can still produce that spine tingling, hairs on the back of the neck stuff. Magnificent.
  10. I remember Mark Lamarr played this on his reggae show a few months ago (I think) and I was really surprised at how good it is. Incidently, Pete given your knowledge of reggae, ska etc how do you rate Mark Lamarr? He seems extremely knowledgable to me and I know he is not everbody's cup of tea, but he does seem to play some racking and obscure stuff on his show.

Per JM's 4th edition. Joe Valentine is listed at £500 in the 4th edition, currently for sale by him at that price.

Hear, hear.As far as I'm concerned Ian Levine could still play a full and active role on the scene today, and everything that he has been accused of being, - bighead, rude etc, applied back in the day when he was, for some, the best DJ around. So nothing new there, then. And yes, his presence would certainly liven up the scene. Bring it on, I say.
  13. "I'm stepping out of the picture" - "Afraid of love". Which was played first, or did they get equal airing at roughly the same time? Who lays claim to playing it/them first? "Afraid of love" is a real belter, I would like to have been around when this first surfaced.
  14. £200 is right. I've not heard this but do like the other side "I know the meaning", nice floaty, mid-tempo thing.
  15. One on ebay last year for $98

£200 per JM's latest. Can't find any ebay activity on this one.

Checked again - no entry for Neal Kimble in the 4th Edition. Two went through ebay in 2006, one for £310, the other for $188. Both listings made reference to John Manship's 1st guide valuation of £1500 which I think was for a one sided copy, at the time.

Per JM - no entry for Neal Kimble

  20. "A man with an obsession is a man who has very little sales resistance" - C S Lewis

JM has Romance Watson at £200.
  22. Can't do the clip thing, but my first buy for sure was the Velvelettes "These things will keep me loving you" - 1968, from Ralphs Records in Manchester. Still an awesome sound, in my humble opinion.
  23. A big £2k per JM's latest, if only for the time being
  24. JM's latest has Kathy and the Calendars at £75 and Ketty Lester also at £75. Drake and the En-solids confirmed at £150.
