Hammersoul replied to Hammersoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Tonight i`m again on my lonesome,Bob still away on a record hunt somewhere deep south . On this weeks show, feature is everything played will be a b-side,be it 7". ,12" or lp(side 2) from late 60`s,70`s and 80`s Xover,Modern and a bit of Funky/soul. Gonna try and dig into the crates for this one. Will run this right way throu the show. i might for a bit of fun, slip one A-side in.Let`s see who`s paying attention lol. Last hour Got 3 great independant cd only tunes from 97-99. Last hour half or so we go Deep, sweet with a few steppers. Hopefully you can join us in the chat room or text us(pm me if you need the number) to say your out there. https://www.starpointradio.com/ -
Best version for me is Terry`s lp mix off Occasional rain lp.
-
Spot on fella, that`s what year got on me inner sleeve. Gotta say another sad lost, gutted to lose 2 of the biggiest influences/fav artists for me in one year(Gil scott Heron being other) . Years ago when i used to have little late night vinyl nights with a bottle of wine or 2. Terry`s lp`s were always pulled out without fail. You could always play especially his Cadet material, whole lp without taking needle off.My thoughts go out to his family/friends.
-
Hi Ivor, yea well thx,was good to have a chat at 100 club last month, hope your well? Personally i really rate this song but each to there own.I can see your point re the uk pressing and would agree that sound wise might be better on u.k going by other records in the pass. Sadly i have the OVO bug/Disease and when it comes to logic/common sense, all goes out the window .

Finally got round to playing all the versions and here`s my view for what it`s worth: 1/Chanson: Much rawer/more soulful/gritty plus it has the better b-side then Connowill 45. 2/Connowil Lp or 45 Not heard rest of lp so can`t comment. 3/Timeless. 3rd press/uk press so not worth mentioning lol

The 14th Oct show which was Male vs Women vocal singers only/battle between me and Bob,sadly the repeat on Tuesday morning was a old show of me and Bob`s and Zane could`t record that show on Sunday. If anybody did record it/has a podcast, could they let us know and we can post it up with a playlist.I know those that listened really enjoyed it and those that had work/early start usually listen in on Tues missed out.We are trying to get Carl of Starpoint to put it out one day, watch this space... Sorry could`t make last Sunday, had a early start meself so Bob was on his own in studio, here`s his playlist/podcast for last Sunday 21st October. This weeks live show: Featured Artist/Person is a well known arranger who`s put out some great music since mid 60`s to 2yk.There`s a thread on him on here so should`t take you long to work it out lol. Also have a Gospel trio, funky 15 mins plus Xover/modern from late 60`s,70`s and 80`s and after 11pm: 3 cd only tracks from 2001-03. Record Prices - Is It Me Or Have They Gone Mad?
Hammersoul replied to paultp's topic in Look At Your Box
Think Steve put it in a nutshell re dodgy buyers, one genuine at $33 rest silly bids.I think i`ve bought off this seller before without any probs. My mate(a member on here) had a similar problem with a few low feedback clowns from France bidding silly prices on his auctions. Spoke to a few U.s sellers who have had same problem, there now banning all French sellers with low feedback. -

Have to say : (what are we gonna do about) this mess and (love is my) secret weapon are top draw .Would there be any chance of releasing these on a little double sider 45 on Kent . Just playing the cd now
-
Think we are getting our wires crossed Ady ,Rsing cost of love is on my cd lol Or was you refering to Loose Change version ? lol
-
Was also done by Loose Change in 79. I haven`t played the Darren Fletcher cd yet to compare versions.
-
That defo tops me lol Have you still got the press kit Sean? Might give a clue what colour was first.
-
So Blue could be first press? Has anyone been in touch with band to confirm? My view is they were pressed on differant colours at same time at differant pressing plants, used to happen a lot, some thing to do with East/West coast rivalry thing.
-
Must admit i never knew this had 2 presses/mixs till Bob Smith played it on radio last week(he played Connowil version)Will check out clip of Connowil and get back to ya with my verdict .
-
Get Brian to text me for sure the dates and i`ll try and get out the boys again for a few Beers.i know Sean `Fox` will be up for this.Only downside is Dec is my busy month so might be a glass of water job for me if i`m driving.Way round this is text me day before so i can do `days`.
-
Never played the other side Dave,in fact i haven`t played this for ages, must dig it out. See you boys were down my neck of the woods Tues
-
Looks like buyer didn`t realize they were getting a 2rd press maybe? . Is this really gone up that much? I paid about a £10/15 from Crazy Beat in the 90`s for a Orange one. Oh my god i`m sounding like Simon Murray in his Soul Bowl days .
-
I know a few collectors who sold this last year for £150. One of my better buys for £10 at The Blue Note one Sunday Morning
-
Mine is on Chanson with Your love has got gusto on flip. Was there 2 presses on Chanson(the plot thickens) Or is another star on Connowil label Jordi?

Sunday 10Pm-Midnight On Starpoint Radio Bob Smith/wayne Arbon
Hammersoul replied to Hammersoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Sorry to anybody who tried to tune in last Sunday, sadly there were technical problems beyond our control. We managed to get on air around 10.20pm but it was hit and miss for another 50 mins or so while Engineer was trying to sort out the problem. There is a hour and 40 mins podcast if anyone is interested? Let me know and i`ll post it up(there`s no playlist). First time Bob has had problems in 4 years so hopefully a one off. Good news we are back with a Men vs ladies stand off between me and Bob.Mainly 60`s,70`s and 80`s Xover,Modern and Funky/soul . Basically no single group Artists/Bands just Single sex singers.Bob is on the Chaps/Lads side,i`ve got the Ladies/Girls. expect to hear the likes of Randy Brown/Sam Dees/Linda Jones/Margie Joseph plus a few little surprises thrown in. We are looking for at least 6 judges to see who wins the battle of the sexs, who can stay up till end of show.Pm or contact myself or Bob if your interested. All a little bit of fun and musically should be quality. There`s no 3 cd`s this week but we will go Deep/Sweet/Down-Tempo last half hour or so.There`s a chat room if you wanna comment/join in the banter. Here`s the Link: https://www.starpointradio.com/ Hopefully some of you can join us.
