  1. I first heard Aint Nothing You Can Do....Joe Matthews early on in my formative years on the scene. Dont know where exactly. Mecca rings a bell 74ish. Became more aware of it again much later at Wigan when RS was pushing it. 75/76ish? It became very quickly my fave tune. I wouldnt say I ran to the floor to dance but I did hurry when it was aired. I was at Wigan one night and there was some guys set up selling records at the bottom of the upstairs cloakroom stairs. I started browsing thru there boxes not paying much attention really. Then there it was. Joe Matthews on red Koolkat There were a few copies. I purchased. I just thought it had been booted. I think I paid £1.00 for it. Wouldnt have been much more cos I wasnt a big collector. Only years later did I find out that it never got booted on red only on white DJ. I lost that disc. I dont where. I think an ex girlfriend had it........... or maybe she still has it. Shes well off the scene now and I dont think she knows what shes got. BUGGER!!!

  3. Whos the lad in the pale coloured trenchcoat stood in the middle of the floor? He looks like that guy out of the St. Trinian films.
  4. Remember taking Perigents, "Lets Get Into Something" up to Searling to play at the Casino with some Clitheroe mates. Circa 74. He played it but said he didnt like it.
  5. Nice readable post.
  6. Yeah, Spencer davis............God I used to love that, Also ...Stevie Wonder.... Nothings too good for my baby. Used to fight to get to the floor. Fantastic place. Fantastic days.
  7. Definately not playing 3b8 in73. I can remember Tobi Legend as a current biggie in early 74,
  8. Can we have Ian Levine back? ..............Only joking. That was a great period on here and the hassle that you had to put up with........well..... all I can say is thanks for your sterling time and effort. A job well done . Heres to you continuing well into the future.
  9. Oops double post. How did that happen? I only did an edit.
  10. I like the look of that Freddie McCoy........Only got the issue myself......Ive never seen a demo. Are they rare? An acquired taste is Soul Yogi. Reminds me of Samanthas circa 75 ish. John Vincent play. Took me quite a time to obtain one. Finally nail it in the Casino record bar. The guy had never heard of it. It was the only place to get sounds was that Casino record bar. I can smell the place now. Brilliant. Be a good idea for a thread. " your greatest finds/purchases in the Casino record bar" There must be loads of stories, good or bad.
  11. Could have sworn Connie Clark was earlier than that. Possibly 74? Or is my mind playing tricks on me?
  12. You,re a bundle of fun.
  13. Blackpool Mecca. Early 74. Combination of chalkies and brown and clears. Everything great in the world. Then Curtis pops Bari Track on, covered as Lebaron Strings. I dont think I ever felt better in my life , then or since. Just superb
  14. Loads to choose from. All that have been mentioned hit the spot. I nominate........Richie Adams........I Cant Escape From You Baby.
  15. Come on mate, you cant say its rubbish. Not your taste maybe. But not rubbish. Its got pretty much everything you could want in a northern soul disc. Earnest vocals, girlie voices, a great chugging break in the middle, great horns and a sax hidden away in there. I wish Id have danced to this back in the day thats for sure.
  16. Yeah. I found it in refosoul. Old wheel tune?.....Eighties spin? It makes sense to be an eighties spin to me cos Id finished my venue days by 81. How come it got missed in the Mecca, Casino days? Or did it?
  17. My collecting days are long over..............But I may have to start again!...............The last song to grab me like this was Syng McGowans .....Thats What I Want. I cant believe that Id never heard that one too.
  18. There were certainly "dance offs". Certainly. Im 54 and can remember guys who tried to outdo each other at dancing. Certainly in the older guys who are 57ish. Especially at The Mecca.
  19. Ive been loading all my soul lps onto my ipod. Loads of them. Anyway there I am tiling the new bathroom, ipod blasting out, when this tune pops up. It immediately stops me in my tracks. What the hell is this tune? It grabs me so much Im dancing round the bathroom like a right good un. I cant believe that Ive never heard it before. I go and search it out on lp and find its by The Dynamites...Dont Leave Me This Way. Why do I not know this song? It dawns on me that there must be tons of tunes I dont know. When was it played?,was it ever played? was it a big tune for someone? Who is the lead singer? I love his voice. I wish I had payed more attention to the tunes of the day instead of being monged out and tunnel visioned. I must have been in a venue when this was booming out. But Ive never heard it before in my life. Its now one of my faves. What a find.
  20. Struggling to remember to be honest. I can remember Tobi Legend being played as a current sound, but no I cant put them in any order or dates etc.
  21. Yep. I tend to agree. I remember it at the Mecca first. 1974. Summer time ish.
