Which dj ?
The internet has changed things hugely the ability to share music online and find countless rare tracks instantly. paper lists and sales tapes RIP.

Which dj ?
For me finding great records that were not already classics and not hugely known was always far more exciting than chasing classics. I remember finally getting the innersouls on plemmons. the uptempo side was being played by a couple of dj,s but the flip was mostly ignored as a club record. It might still be now ? Midtempo magic and i still love to hear it now. Its on the current car CD. just a random example.

Ok i misunderstood.

Which dj ?
It would be almost impossible for a newcomer to come onto the scene and get the knowledge required to be progressively aggressive. Unless they have some mentors in the background. you can develop an ear for a good record and beaver away and gaining knowledge and putting together a collection or a DJ box but i think you need to put in a lot of hard work first. most newcomers will have the ocean of oldies to work through first.

The 'upfront scene' ?
With the mountain of fantastic music available there should be no excuses for playing second rate rubbish. the upfront crowd if we are going to use that term would also know pretty much every record at an oldies night. But oldies fans would possibly hardly know anything in an upfront venue as they stopped searching out new records.

recently brought technics 1210 turntable

recently brought technics 1210 turntable
Thats a very bling 1210 i've not seen the option to change pitch from +8 to +16 before and the shiny black top. i bought my 2 x 1210s early 90s and they are still faultless so well worth the money imo.

SOUL SOURCE RECORD CLUB 2018, 50 YEARS OF RARE SOUL
Yes it is early 70’s i read thread title wrong and thought it was for records from 68 that are 50 years old. a favourite by geater for me is this one along with the sunbelt which is equally as good if not better.

SOUL SOURCE RECORD CLUB 2018, 50 YEARS OF RARE SOUL
Great record, great artist. Label looks a lot earlier than 68 if a label design can have an age...

Tv Adverts & Northern Soul
Ikea used a really great female ballad lowrider sound mid last year in the ad. a previously unissued thing that had only come out fairly recently. the name passes me by but it was a great choice and shows sometimes they go a bit beyond the obvious.
-
meaning of northern soul (split from orig topic)
It’s certainly going round the houses.... and as for AOTR we have enough good records at our disposal now to never play things like that ever again.

Possibly THE Rarest Soul 45?
This is the point i was making. In ovo venues you just dont hear it as it is very rare. the overexposure has come from lazy journalists putting it inti the mainstream. one day we may hear mellosouls on an advert then what ?
-
Possibly THE Rarest Soul 45?
This 45 has become a victim of its own success as its often chosen on non northern soul tv like adverts etc. as in overplayed in ovo venues i would disagree. Its rarity prevents this. but over exposed in mainstream media then yes. its too well known outside northern circles and that seems to create most of the negative attitude towards it imo.
