  1. our tastes must differ at times I think this is preyty good but i'm not always the biggest fan of records you think are very good.
  2. I do agree that its pretty rare seen a few on ebay but not any huge amounts.
  3. I just picked up an ernie rivers on knox that appears to be pretty much unknown. no turntable set up at the minute so not sure what it sounds like i've not heard it yet. fingers crossed its a good one.
  4. harper bros is known for this side and also for the ballad which may be a low rider song ? the ballad is realy good not so sure about this side myself I don't think its good enough but thats just my opinion.

If you don't like this you don't like northern soul

I only have her cheap Leno 45 but musically it's as good or better than the odes. Seen a few copies of odes but. Never seen the one mentioned by kris.
  8. Down to one again an enzo mecana very pleased with it
  9. yes a good few years ago I had multiple copies of both and sold the spares to friends cheap. I think both are great. just digging through some records today and found these. would be great if a couple of other things surfaced but I guess thats very unlikely now.
  10. "who understands" has had a few minor spins lately and today i've had a listen to "crunchin song" which to me would also sound great in a club possibly the stronger of the two sides. The flip to the later is also a strong sweet soul side. did they make any other 45s on this label or any other labels ? i've only seen these 2 so far. both are certainly worth keeping ane eye out for IMO and should still be around for $10 or so.
  11. yes Dave some great stuff listed there i've never seen ernest jackson on that label before.
  12. I realy didn't explain my comment very well. I think its a boot specifically done for the dutch surinam scene because it came from holland. if i'd bought it elsewhere i'd just have thought it was a boot and not done for any specific scene. I know quite a lot of records were booted for that specific scene thats all i'm tryign to say. I also know a lot of genuine records come from holland. The majority of my purchases from holland have been originals. but it seems these are legit reissues ? manus mine also cost just a couple of euros so same.
  13. John has auctioned a handfull of 45s for me and i've always been pleased with the service. where possibly I try to sell my own items as it helps to build up a better network of collectors to do future deals with both buying and selling.
  14. although i've said on here that the merchandise at soul venues is tacky (records not included) and unnecessary I might actually wear a record label or studio t-shirt. These are actually a bit different IMO. I've thouhgt about having the man from the quinvy logo on a t-shirt as an example or the elephant from tuska. Something another soul fan out and about may recognise without being to tacky.
  15. I don't think it was a boot just because it came from Holland it just doesn't look right to me ? I've had lots of great deep and ballads from Holland all originals. But also a few funny looking ones. Another example is a bell brothers on sure shot that also just doesn't look right. I suppose it could just be a reissue ?
  16. 40 quid is a great price. I think the days of this demanding 300 are long gone though Nev. I'd probably try it at 100 - 125 now if I picked one up to sell. I sold one for not much mroe than that on here when demand was high.
  17. I have one of these and think its a boot done for the dutch ballad / surinam scene. I think this because mine came from Holland.
  18. bob break yourself in gently with deep with backing vocals and soon you'll love it all.... you are still only young so there is still time to love deep soul
  19. and I made the assumption, prehaps wrongly, that you were talking about all merchandise except records. anyway we agree on this in general. the record bar was always a great place to start a soul night or nighter for me. I don;t think i;d enjoy the tea towel bar quite so much.
  20. if you agree with all I say maybe you started this thread for exactly the reason I would have as well and we have the same opinion. I find it sad the way what should be an underground music scene has gone pretty much down the pan.....
  21. where exactly in you opening post did you mention records ? I must be blind..... maybe you added that in a later post after somebody else entered records into the discussion......
  22. what I mean is origional 45s are the lifeblood of the scene and I would expect to see them for sale at an event. some stupid mug or gollywog has nothing what so ebver to do with helping this scene so is not needed. is that OK for you ?
  23. well i'm sure you know what I meant......
  24. aside from records the other "stuff" is just terrible IMO something i'd never buy and to be honest its cringeworthy. shall I wear a smedley polo or a NS fist and keep the faith comment t-shirt, mmmmmm tough decision.....
  25. records aren't merchandise.
