News: Bletsoe to the Wheel and Back.... Norman Rogers Book Review
Hi Finley, and welcome to Soul Source. Big Bob was a great local character and I was saddened to hear of his passing some years back. I don't recall him having any involvement with Wilby though, nor was I aware of do's at Wicksteed Park (sometimes slept there if I was unsuccessfully thumbin' it back from Corby). That said, I left Northants in '71 when I joined the army, so maybe we're talking different times. Living at Moulton I was the right side of Northampton to visit the Nags occasionally with school mates and it was my intro to music venues. Then we moved to Roade and Friday night at the Blisworth Hotel became a regular outing. I wouldn't class either as Rare Soul venues but they were fun. When I left home at 16 I was thirsting for more. That's when I discovered Wilby, Earls Barton and the land of niters. That's why I have to read this book. - Kev

No problem. Memories of The George at Wilby etc, etc, need revitalising but there's no rush.

Can anyone advise me where best to pick up a copy of this book please. Cheers, Kev.

The Love RIghts - Talk of the town - Kimberlite Records
Well, I've just deleted a long and rambling reply prior to posting it. No need - I've made my point. Incidentally, what I paid for a record was surely the price?? Good luck with your sales, it's a nice double sider.

The Love RIghts - Talk of the town - Kimberlite Records
I paid £4.99 for my new copy which was purchased at the end of December. If you are Kimberlite's official Australian distributor, how do you justify, just 6 weeks later, offering these at £25 ? This is precisely what is wrong with the marketing of so many new releases IMO. Inflated prices should be justified not assumed.

Import tax
HMRC and/or the Post Office are possibly employing/training more customs staff on import tax checking in preparation for brexit and when the tax will eventually be due on goods from Europe. In the meantime that means more staff to practice on/look out for, items from the rest of the world which may otherwise have slipped the net. Just a guess. - Kev

BBC - Fake Britain - Vinyl Bootlegs - 28 Nov 2019
I care. If you play out and can't afford an original, buy a different original that you can afford. That way we won't have everyone playing the same tune. - Kev

Younghearts question
Nail on head. If not, how would the audience know when to start applauding? It's only the "Egyptian" bit at the end that provides the clue, particularly in a live set which would be likely to be extended. The applause starts before then. It's fake. - Kev

Poll: Version Battle - Angel Baby
Without a doubt George Carrow is the one that does it for me. It's the version that harks back to my youth and is the one that, when unknown to me, Dave Godin recommended to me along with a handful of others in one of London's Berwick Street record stores. Amongst the other tunes were Bok to Bach...Father's Angels, Cat Walk....Gerry & Paul and the Soul Emissaries, and Spreadin' Honey....Watts 103rd St Rhythm Band (get anything with "Watts" in it, he said). Still got all the vinyl I bought that day in '71. -Kev

Northern Soul & Motown Venues California
Mate, if you ever return to the site and this post, remember this: When you ask for suggestions and people make the effort to try and help you out, then it's to be expected that you will at least bother to check for responses. Anything else is just taking the p!ss. - Kev

Men jailed for ‘fake’ vinyl records scam
Yep! Fresh meat in the block. Brings a whole new meaning to those ' little hole, big hole ' debates.

Men jailed for ‘fake’ vinyl records scam
Well that is good news! Surely there's no way now that eBay can avoid being hauled over the legal coals for their participation. - Kev

Men jailed for ‘fake’ vinyl records scam
Because, as the original newspaper article states "Judge Richard Williams said no members of the public had complained about purchasing the records" adding that they would have expected them to be unlicensed presses... So the boot playing wannabee dj's and the promoters that put them on are directly responsible for allowing this crime to perpetuate. Some would argue that eBay is similarly responsible for allowing the sale of such items despite numerous complaints which have been ignored. Maybe more arrests are to follow now that the case against the main players has been successful. Interesting to note that the case has been ongoing since at least July 2014. Hmmm, anyone bought or sold any boots since 2014 ? - Kev

Have a word with Leo, on here as ljblanken. He's been over here a couple of times with his wife and a mate. They did the 100 Club and Crossfire and I believe they have something going in LA. - Kev edit..... I see you're a brand new member. Welcome to soul source. I'll message Leo and maybe he'll contact you or respond to the thread. Good Luck.

Reissue and new release part2
If no one on here has heard of the artist or the tune, nor the label or anyone on the credits, then why bother with a photo? A sound clip or two might be more relevant. - Kev

record shops in London
Try Hanway Street just off the eastern end of Oxford Street and a stone's throw from Tottenham Court Rd underground station. There's a couple of shops there worth looking at. Nearby and easy walking distance is Berwick St and surrounds where there's always been a handful of shops worth checking out. Good Luck, Kev.

Technics SL 2000 Lid
Bearing in mind that you can buy generic "one size fits all" lids, I'd be very surprised if the Technics lids weren't interchangeable. I bought a NEW lid for a Lenco L90 deck for £30 - £40 a couple of years ago from the Lenco website. It was by far the cheapest lid I could find and would have fitted numerous other brand decks. - Kev
