  1. I think the guy you mention with the huge record box was from Cambridge. We used to be on the same train and he'd wheel his box on an old trolley from the station - p*ssed myself one night when a wheel fell off! His name was James and he had a really weird style of dancing. Was put though to the final of the St Ives dancing competion for a laugh! Mark C
  2. Remember watching it first time round and sure Lillian Dupree - Hide and Seek was also played. Must've been someone in the know. Mark C i
  3. I receive a flyer every other month from a club in Peterborough that always says "Oldies to Current Monsters!" OK - haven't been there for a few years but it was always an Oldies night. Once or twice a DJ would try something different and it would clear the floor... Mark C
  4. 47 - me Dad (Billy) takes me out every now and then if I'm a good boy Mark C
  5. Heard that you have some interesting things in your own box, Gail... Hang on - that didn't come out too well!! Mark C
  6. Billy often does a 500 mile round trip from Norfolk to Middleton, Stoke, Burnley etc etc, then dances all night and drives home again! Not bad for someone who's closer to 60 than 50!! Mark C
  7. Hi, I first heard this record years ago and it was credited to The Paradox then so unlikely it is a cover up? Played a while back at Middleton and at the time someone said they had heard The Paradox were actually a British group from up your way, Jayne. Don't know how true this is. Mark C
  8. Like the way he took a nice short journey after his convalescence! And hope he's on form at Middleton... Mark C
  9. Soul Sam certainly had a copy. I kept tapes of his Modern Set from a St Ives Dayer (10/4/83). Here's what he played - Flight, Philly All Stars, Record Player, Jan Jones, Booker Newberry Third, Lady, Ike Strong, Alfie Davison, Mother Fox, Patches, Walter Jackson, King Tutt, E J Rice, Melvin Moore, Will Collins & Willpower, Brothers Gilmore, Charles Johnson, Cecil Lyde, Dee Edwards, Luther Davis Group, Skip Mahoney, Flaming Emeralds, Mind & Matter, Larry Houston The Booker Newberry hit the Top 10 the very next day!! Mark C
  10. No - it's missed out "60s Newies". Suggestion, if people are so confused why not go to said venue and listen for yourselves!! Mark C (Sorry - just seen that someone already beat me to the 60s Newies description!)

The way I personally see it, the internet is something I use during the week and occassionally at weekends. Come Friday, Saturday night it's - bag out of cupboard, fill with the necessities, spare shirts, strides, shoes etc and away we go.......... Until my legs/kidney/head give in I'll continue to "tread the boards" at venues up and down the country. See you out on the dance floor Mark C

Just had a quick look at POGs book in Waterstones and from how he describes it he went to the very early Wigans - and worried about the effects of 2 pro plus he was given !! Mark C
  14. Lucas is alive and well and living in Norwich! He has done the local pub and circuit this way for many years now and can often be seen out and about in our fine city!! Mark C
  15. My sister saw him at The Talk in Norwich in the 70s (think it was called the Melody Rooms then) She and her mate were at the stage but lots of people were hanging around the bar area ignoring him Mark C
  16. Yeah, when I last booked Soul Sam his landlady came on the line and said "Martin isn't free that week, but can do the week after"
  17. Hi Beeks, may be going a bit off topic but I just wonder what type of event you promoted as I understand you're a relative newcomer to the Northern scene Mark C

Am sure I read somewhere that "On The Real Side" - Larry Saunders was voted Wigans overall No.1 record? Mark C

Billy, didn't you perform on stage as part of the dancing competition? Heard you thought that everyone was cheering you on then you realised your belt had broke and your trousers were falling down Mark C
  20. Been thinking Reg - with this business trying to encourage youngsters onto the scene why don't you incorporate "Northern Soul Dance Lessons" with your talks in schools? Just a thought! Mark C
