  1. We watched Ireland in the 1990 World Cup in the downstairs bar before heading upstairs. Got delayed by a strippergram who did her stuff to a poor bloke. Will never forget the look on his face. Afterwards, fully naked she just put her fur coat on and left for her next gig... Mark C
  2. I just separate the (shredded) wheat from the chaff and go to what are imho the real soul events - VaVaVoom, Grumpysoul and Lifeline being the last 3... Mark C
  3. Some people sprinkle white crystals on theirs...
  4. We still talk about the night 4 of us came from Norwich - must have been 1984. Made a weekend of it with Ritz and Wigan Niter - 30 years ago...fantastic memories...Hi Pat, hope you're well and all the best for 2015...Mark C
  5. Rimini - absolutely brilliant!
  6. Well, this Norwich City fan was only a few miles away Grumpys, Runcorn while the celebrations were taking place and I would have to pick Walk with a Winner as we got 3 badly needed points!! Mark C
  7. Just out of interest is "Stormy" a Diana Ross solo track? Thanks Mark C
  8. Some great stuff from The Norwich Numpties - you lads Keep a Troshin' as we say out here (Norfolk for Keep the Faith lol) Mark C
  9. E.J. Chandler - I can't stand to lose you - monster!! Mark C
  10. Tony was the first dj I ever booked back in 1981. He reminded me a while back that I was the only person to pay his fee upfront (£50 - a tidy sum in those days!) but he was well worth it and always enjoyed coming up to Norwich. I shall miss him... God Bless You, Tony Mark C
  11. Fleet definitely open in 1981 - I have a live tape made the week after Wigan closed. Kev Draper played Larry Santos and said "This is Wigan when it used to be good". They had an assortment of people running the place after the East Anglian Soul Club including Jon Buck and even Ian Clark did one or two...
  12. I thought Clifton Hall started in 1980? Thought I saw a 2nd Anniversary patch saying 1982?? And the Fleet definitely running at the same time. I started going there in 1978.
  13. Would gladly contribute. The most exciting times for me were 1981 onwards, the little crowd of us from Norwich travelled alot - and still do - so we have lots of tales to tell!! Regards Mark Chamberlin
  14. Several of us from Norwich wore the polyveldts - black or tan. Someone buffed the tan ones up with cherry red polish to spruce them up! Andersons store at the back of Norwich market sold soul bags (30" bottoms) - I had a bottle green and navy blue pair and got really upset when my family used to say I looked like a clown!! Moved onto a brown pair of 40" Spencers, christened them at Wigan and the waist button came off so sold them straightaway. Also had a pair of patchwork denim jeans - sent off for them from, I think, Spencers. All the best Mark C Just remembered when I decided to move forward, a couple of us went for the "Bowie" type pegs with pleats all the way round the top. Decided to go for a white pair but asked my mum if she could dye them burgundy. You guessed it - they came out a nice shade of pink! (and went in the bin)
  15. Brilliant! Not seen it with those sub-titles before... Mark C
  16. Cinema City in Norwich are showing the film tomorrow night, a 180 seater that sold out in a few days. No need to press gang the cinema into showing it, and there's a second showing on Wednesday for those who missed out on a first night ticket. Norwich has had a big Northern Soul following for many years despite being "on the road to nowhere" and I'm really looking forward to watching the film with friends who are on the same wave length as me... Mark C
  17. Frank Webster and myself went to a Niter in Coventry quite a few years ago, when we arrived the queue was massive and we both thought it's gonna be one hell of a night. Turned out that Amnesia was on upstairs and as the Northern room was crap we, along with most of the others from the Northern room, spent most of the night in there. Certainly not a night to forget Mark C
  18. I think Tommy was born in 1933, so that makes him 81. Brilliant that he is still on stage imho Mark C
  19. Epitome of Sound! ZZZZZZZZZZ - somebody play the other side for a change........
  20. Yes, I saw them a while back in a pub just up the road from me. 2 girl vocalists and excellent backing. I think the line-up has changed and maybe the girl singers have been replaced with a male. Mark C
  21. Dean - We have it on at Cinema City in Norwich, Friday October 17th with an "afterparty" until 2am. Not gonna be a very long after party as the film is 101 minutes long. I would have preferred an All-Niter but that would have meant 6 of us left at 3am Mark C
  22. I've been running soul nights at the Keir Hardie Hall in Norwich for several years, it's known as being my venue and I've basically kept the club afloat with huge bar takings and raising funds for their new roof. Someone unknown has come in and booked a Northern night there on New Years Eve - yes - I'm pissed off but have simply booked a room round the corner for the same night!! Get in there!! Mark C
