  3. Ady, are you working on a Bob & Earl project ? Here's some Bob & Earl anorak stuff for ya.......... I'm not sure if you're aware but did you know that the takes of "Your Time Is My Time" are different between the UK B&C LP, and the Mirwood release - which has strings, and the Marc release is different again. I have other useless Bob& Earl info if needed. Cliff

Don't waste your time Joan, anyone that thinks listening to Frank Wilson is still a cool thing to do doesn't share our world, and I'm thankful for that Soul snob..............and proud of it

  8. I'd be surprised if it wasn't Irene Scott, since vocally it's similar to her "You're No Good" on Midas, and the Scotts are very likely to be the Chicago Scott Brothers who also had a release on Smash together with Toddlin' Town. Zachron and USA.

So what I understand from your arguements are the following - 1. Anyone that might express an opinion of care about the music, not completely in agreement with your very limited perception is "ripping apart" everything and everyone. Do you really believe that you speak for the knowledgable majority 2. That posts (like mine) highlight the worst aspects of the scene. Yeah you're right on this one, people like you are amongst the worst aspects of the scene. You have nothing to offer that has not already been contributed, but you really belive you do, and that's very sad, not to mention irritating. 3. That you actually believe that anyone with a contrary position to you has no genuine interest in the scene. I honestly thought my advice to you to find another place to play was constructive, and in the best interests of the scene (and definitely this site).....but then what do I know, I'm bound to have a very different perspective than someone that's been around for as little time as you have. Oh, and one last thing. It really is possible to have a serious passion for the music, and enjoy yourself at the same time...........don't know where you come from on the mutual exclusivity ? POG, by the way, a a bit of telly fun, full of clowns........nothing at all to do with the music

Beeks, I think the point that's being made here is that if the soul scene was left to guys like you to keep progressive and healthy, then God help us all. The kind of comments you make just demonstrate your absolute ignorance of eveything that's good about the scene and the music, and highlight everything that's LCD, handbag and POG. Why don't you just move on to your next music fad and leve this to the grown ups.
  11. Me, Kitch and Glen, just sipping on some cold beers, thinking where the hell have you been looking But you're right it's a rare funk record on the basis it's not funk.......see ya soon, Bluegrass funk in the box
  12. Always rated this, and have been playing it out over the past few years.......killer deep flip side too...both sides proper soul
  13. Don't you dare slag off Towanda Barnes' version...........it's onehelluvatoon, and whilst it's always bound to be compared to Sam Williams, and come off 2nd, it's a very close 2nd in my book. Just an awesome production that's perfected with TB's killer vocal style. I can listen to this awful stuff all day long........must have poor taste compared to some
  14. Ok so now they're a black pop group........hasn't changed the fact it's a pop record, Horace Ott in charge or not.
  15. Well it's definitely a rarity Ted....a black pop group with less soul than Des O'Connor
  16. You're all missing the point..........it's not about colour it's about the singing style and the the conviction and emotion that shouts out through the lyrics. Black or white the MVP's sang a pop song, unlike the groups like the Magnificent Men who sang soul with conviction and emotion. If you don't get it, then maybe you never will.......
  17. I think you mean that the Northern Scene is less than a Deep Soul Scene with a beat
  18. Well put Soulful Bob, there's soul and then there's Northern soul...........quite a few people get them confused and quite a lot more don't know the difference. Soul content regularly takes second place to tempo for the less discerning amongst us
  19. If we're doing tunes from the same colour label, then we'll need to invite Dave "Posh "Car" Bentley who pioneered yellow label collecting at TOTW......and bagged plenty of great tunes on his theory....
  20. Rob's CD arrived yesterday........nice Thanks for reminding me just how good El Shobey is....time to dust that off for the play box.
  21. Nope, not yet, but ever the optimist me, I even still think I'm gonna receive Val's soon .....fair's fair though, he does live nearly 3 miles from me, and I only see him every weekend
  22. ......and then there's the all time Major Lance classic - "Sycamore, Scyamore"...... Tricky Trev knows all the lyrics to that one
  23. ....that's January to you Sean .......and February to Rob Better get votes in for the theme to give these guys a head start..........how about records you can never find
