  1. Don't thinkn thats the same Kathy Burke, the TV KB is an ex London Mod and was around on the scene in the late 70s early 80s and Im sure she ran the Small Hours fan club (Memory failing?) Had a few drinks with her waaaaaay back in the Mildmay Pub before she went on to superstardom with Harry Enfield and remember her being just one of us, lovely girl.
  2. Written by Debbie Horsfield (right spelling?) of Clocking Out fame and funny enough caused huge outcry when it was shown on BBC's Wednesday play. I know this because Ive still got all the cuttings I was just about to upload to my FB
  3. I remember that well and yes it was all about the one black glove we all sported at the time, I have pics of Pottsy with his on dancing with Tommy Hunt I think somewhere. Right up there with that other fashion statement the vest worn over the T shirt look! I loved that letters page Steve and pretty much all your Blackbeats because the arguments raged for years on 6Ts Newies vs Modern, seems so pointless now.
  4. There is but one Highlander lol. Neil from Letchworth mate as Pete S rightly pointed out (Hi btw Pete) and yes its that Sally but her BF at the time was very into Northern and I know he did have it in his sweaty palms at one stage as were discussing the lack of details on the acetate.

I had chance to speak with Eddie many years ago at an allnighter and had similar told to me that Larry was indeed a man you didn't want to mess with, a gangster that could sing really. He wasn't really forthcoming with any other info which i took to mean it was a subject best left well alone. Not unusual if you think what Philly was like at the time and also other singers with equally dodgy backgrounds!
  6. If its Sally then its probably defo gone but I will ask around and see. She's not the easiest person to get hold of but I can put the feelers out.
  7. I'd be interested to know if its on DVD too.
  8. Was that Sally who bradley gave it too? If it is then I live next door to her mother so can find out if its still intact or currently ticking
  9. Agree totally, the knockers should watch this and they may learn a little as to why it took so long to get it out and also the many pitfalls along the way.
  10. Wet dreams?!?? :-D
  11. So true Leonardo, look we excepted you and your doddgy musical tastes :-)) You are right though, every class, creed, colour, background accepted as long as your into the music that is all (God I even remember the days when no one gave a toss about what clothes you wore!) I remember being at a do where friends of ours were sat chatting, one being a bank manager and the other being the guy that had robbed same bank a few weeks earlier! Now thats a soulful brotherhood.
  12. Thats a toon! Yes please if you could post me a CD that would be great mate. will PM you.
  13. Thank you! I heard that show featuring the carl carlton cover and no bugger believes me! If you have the show can you email it me?
  14. Without giving too much away and for what its worth I loved it, thought it was an excellent gritty Brit film that covered all the aspects of the scene well and many of the characters were composites of many we have all known over the years. I know the drug side has been an issue for some however Elaine has already stated elsewhere this is her experiences and memories of the scene and for me much rang true. Overall as an experience the film hit all the right spots. This was a Scorsese Goodfellas compared to the High School Musical that was Soul Boy. Polar opposites. Many funny moments, many many areas that rang oh so true, and I think that is true for everyone, and yes ending was abrupt but overall its a triumph for Elaine. ( I loved the fact that Ray H is so obviously based on Mr Sixties Newie Guy Hennigan!) Just not letting my kids watch it yet, might be too many questions being asked!!!
  15. Indian ink and a compass
  16. Re the tattoos I know that Taffy was consulted on the authentic tats for the film and that loads around our way had them, obviously still do lol, and many were Northern Soul related (KTF, Northern Soul, Ric Tic etc etc ).
  17. I'm not sure they knew how huge it would become Pete as it was originally just a few select cinemas showing it before us lot got on the case.
  18. Thats good to read PhillyDaveG, I approached the Broadway way back asking if I could hire a screen to show it and God bless them they ran with it and put on all those showings off their own back and to read its sold out every time makes me very happy. I know Elaine will be happy to read the local support shown, given she was one of ours so to speak for a while. We are there en masse tonight for my birthday and the buzz is superb. Shall post my thoughts after Ive seen it.
  19. The Broadway Cinema in Letchworth, Herts have not only moved the 3 nights to the bigger screen room but have also added extra slots in the morning for both Saturday and Sunday as demand has been so great. So anyone who can't see it can get in, I know there were a few from Milton Keynes area that were struggling so that may be of use to them as Letchworth is only a 45 min straightish drive from there.
  20. All the online reviews have been very positive so far. Im looking forward to see if BBC's Mark K reviews it
  21. Never seen a 7" let alone heard of one, only the 12". Must be rare
  22. Ditto on the Jimmy Robbins! A belting slab of filthy Soul/R&B you'd be hard to find better. Right up there with AC Reed etc
  23. Well I stand open mouthed as I didn't know Melbas versions either but having said that Patti still edges it for me, especially if its Tom Moultons mix. Very happy sweat drenched wide eyed nights spent spinning and dipping to her in the days when iIcould do all that without risking a cardiac arrest and Steve 'The Silver Soul Fox' G had not a trace of the Schofield upon his flowing locks :-)
  24. Arthur is GOD! Check out the stunning unissued (and frankly WTF were they thinking!) Stay By Me - Soul as deep as you like and then some. Happy memories of me and Randy waxing lyrical about this, the man and Maxine!
  25. Its not up yet but you can catch it here https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04kzz5r Quote: And ahead of the release of a new film about Northern Soul we explore its resurgence amongst fans young and old.
