George was a handful by all accounts, but he did finance the manufacture of the single, so I guess it was the typical ‘he said she said’ argument. When I put the Del Larks back together at Soultripusa March 2006, remaining members gave their version of events. Sadly George isn’t alive to throw his two penneth in. Just a great record with bad distribution due to the players in disagreement with Blackwell.

Just to reiterate......The Del Larks Black and Silver DJ was first found at Mcfarlane Music, Newark, New Jersey in 1978. I eventually sold it in 1980 to Dave Raistrick. The promo was manufactured by George Blackwell who not only sang but acted as a local entrepreneur for a few local acts. If anyone needs any further info, I will be happy to answer them. Cheers KR

You should be able to find audio and video of him with us at Soultripusa Los Angeles 2004 His other major NS credit is Alexander Patton. Both James and I along with Alex and Fred Smith were photographed in the Point Moorea Bar In LA during the event. One of the Soultripusa group took it. Dave Ferguson perhaps?

Hello- It came from me in 1975. I hit a store in New York that amazingly had acquired master reels from Broadway and A1 Sound studios. Among the tapes were the Perigents(pronounced The Per-regents) Rampage, Instrumental, Airplane Song plus other George Kerr material. I shared the story with GK during his appearance at the Blackpool Soul Festival 2017 Not sure I gave the acetate I cut to Ian. Feel sure it went to Rob Smith. There you go.......

I was with him on the night at the Casino in 1974. A great character, incredibly knowledgeable, extremely likable and discoverer of tremendous turntable hits back in the day. On that occasion though, he and organiser Russ Winstanley misjudged the audience and the launch of his instrumentals and other creations quite rightly didn’t work.

They were led by Marcel King and hailed from Manchester. My former production partner David Parton wrote the 2 major hits ‘Dreamer’ and ‘Coincidence’. He hails from Stoke on Trent.

Well not on the Niter scene until the Torch but Derek certainly had it along with Eddie Regan. He just wasn’t known as a ‘Northern’ DJ then. I remember mentioning it to Alan Day in fact.

The late Derek Allen may have been a contender. He had Eddie Regan and the Shakers in early 1972. Unless you went to his mobile discos though, you wouldn’t know. He didn’t engage with the full on Northern scene until much later 😀

(Diane) Newby, previously on Kapp and (Larry) Johnson, formerly lead on the Del Royals ‘Man of Value for Mercury. The rhythm track was cut in Detroit using the expertise of Tony Camillo. Vocals were added in New York.

Damn! I spoke to him in March while in Nashville. Will call his industry colleague Frank Howard shortly. Awful news.
