Where And When Did Northern Soul Dancing Start?
Hmm... the Northern Soul dance is unique to the scene. Therefore it is Northern Soul dancing. It might have borrowed or been influenced by many other scenes and cultures, but it developed its own instantly recognisable style. It is a dance form in its own right.

Show Us Your Great Photos (2018)
A new year and a new photo thread to keep us entertained through the months ahead. My first addition is something suitably seasonal - a wintery scene taken in the Amsterdam woods. All contributions very much welcomed, and if the photos we've seen in previous years is anything to go by, we've a lot to look forward to. Enjoy!

Show us your great photos (2017)
That's a nice idea. One option might be to go through the thread at the end of the year and put forward those photos with the greatest amount of "Up Votes". That said, and given the huge talents we have on here, you might find that a top 10 selection of the most liked photos comes from just two or three people. If anyone has any suggestions as to how something like this might work, your thoughts are most welcome.

Show us your great photos (2017)
Who'd have thought when the first photography thread was started in 2013 that it would still be going on today? Across hundreds, if not 1,000s of posts, we've been very fortunate to see an incredible array of amazing photos. That's really rather remarkable, and entirely down to the enthusiastic and continued participation of everyone here. For anyone interested, and with some spare time on their hands, here's a link to the first thread. With one year ending and another about to begin, I'll close this thread tomorrow and start up a new one for 2018. Thanks to everyone for sharing your great pics and for contributing to what - as Peter says - has become something of a permanent fixture! Happy New Year and best wishes to you all!

Northern Soul Amsterdam Feb 2018
Amsterdam's small but mighty soul club is back on Saturday 10th February 2018. We'll be joined behind the decks by Bart Fader and Taco Fett. Best known for running Waxwell (probably Amsterdam's most famous record shop) and as former hosts of the long-running "Struttin'" nights, Taco and Bart will be playing heavy soul and funk sounds on original vinyl. The venue, Cafe Batavia, is just a couple of minutes walk from Amsterdam Centraal Station. For more information, come and join our Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/northernsoulamsterdam

Baby Lloyd - something on your mind LOMA
James Brown's involvement with the Loma record label extends to just three 45s, all released in 1965. That came courtesy of the legendary Bob Krasnow, who'd been closely involved with the King record label and had headed up their San Francisco operations before taking on the mantle of general manager with the newly launched Loma in 1964. Those three 45s are: Loma 2014: Baby Lloyd - There's something on your mind Pt 1 & 2 - April 1965 (James Brown as producer on both songs) Loma 2016: Bobby Bennett & the Dynamics - Soul jerk Pt 1 & 2 - July 1965 (James Brown as producer and writer on both songs) Loma 2018: Walter Foster - Waitin' / Your search is over - Aug 1965 (James Brown as producer on both songs and writer of "Waitin'"). A bit more info on the Baby Lloyd 45 here: https://www.lomarecords.com/loma2014-baby-lloyd.html

Is anyone having trouble with musicstack website
And I'm just outside of Amsterdam. Tried the site just now and it seems to be back up and running.

Is anyone having trouble with musicstack website
Yup, tried to get into Musicstack a number of times yesterday but couldn't - the site just wouldn't load.

You might find this useful... https://www.soul-source.co.uk/forums/topic/359847-marvin-l-sims-reissueboot/ The pic referred to in my opening post isn't the same as you've posted, but one on an orange label.

Your dad's events in the SE of England were pretty much the first Mod and soul events I ever went to. Somewhere in the house I still have a number of flyers of events in places like Orpington, and the alldayers in Ilford. Happy memories!

Strictly does Northern at Blackpool but looks strictly em
I'll expect my mum to get in touch after seeing the "Northern Soul" routines on the show and ask "Is that what you do?"

This weeks Fingerpoppin Soul radio show Nov 16 2017
Hey, good to see you on here, Hans. Welcome. Must admit to missing the first hour, but really enjoyed the second.

Question
Completely agree with the consensus here - DJs should never pay to get in and are allowed a guest. I do know of one event not so long ago where the DJs got in for free but their guest/spouse had to pay. That didn't go down well!

Hmm, I see what you mean about the Countryfile calendar. They seem to have gone for a number of cute animal shots rather than ones that are outstandingly good. Clearly our expectations are higher - but only because we've been treated to so many fantastic photos during the three years these "Show us your great photos" threads have been running.

The winning images in the 2017 British Wildlife Photography Awards can be viewed via the link below to Sky News. While some of them are excellent, I can't help but think that as far as some of the others are concerned, we've had better on here. http://news.sky.com/story/british-wildlife-photography-awards-2017-11118317 What's your opinion, guys and gals?
