Hi Its a tough one to find, have you got one for sale???? Dave Halsall
  5. Paul Al Johnson was appearing at the Southport Weekender that year on the saturday evening (actually 1.15am Sunday ) as I got most of my A.J stuff signed dated 7th nov 92, along with a couple of programmes. Great days and great unsung SOUL singers we got to see over those early years Dave Halsall

Jackie Wilson in my opinion is the greatest male soul singer that ever walked the plant earth. He could sing everything, from deep soul to dance soul. His recordings are pretty amazing and probably the most consistant throughout his career. Some of his duets are amazing and while Sweetest Feeling is prehaps his most played/well known recording if I had to choose one that does me up everytime then spin his Beautiful Day.......it is not only a brilliant record it makes you me feel glad to be alive. I doubt whether I will ever come across an artist that ticks all the boxes for me, although quite a few have come close, but for me JACKIE WILSON IS THE MAN ? The Man In Black
  7. Shute Just had a really nasty thought. What a great way of getting people to bid on your record,.......Go on Soul Source and make out you made a big howler in listing it, then all and sundry go on the auction to try and get a bargain.......15 seconds to go and it goes from £9.99 to £150 plus.. Bloody clever that Shute mate Your a sodding genius. Dave H. (TMIB)
  8. Top tune well worth £150 are you gonna pull it or let it run?? I have a copy but hey at that price I might put in a bid??????? TMIB
  9. Shute What are you selling mate?, Let us know Dave H (TMIB)
  10. The buy it now tag does not act as a reserve price, you have to put this on yourself Dave H (TMIB)
  11. Shute No mate usually when a bid is placed the Buy it now comes off and its a straight auction, but there may be variants but usually the seller dictates this when listing it Dave Halsall
  12. The demo was actually the very first record I bought on the label and the labelhad been a bit of an obsession since. Anything with Ted Jarrett/Bob Holmes on it and Im in there. I have been raving about this record for so long I had given up on it, I used to sell copies for £4 each back in the 80s with the promise of your money back if you did not like it. i dont recall ever having one returned. Strangely the Peggy Gaines 45 is the first demo I have where its a plain white one, all my earlier releases are white with a red stripe, so prehaps if a demo exists of the piano intro then it might be red & white?? Heaven forbid if there are 2 demos designs of each mix?????? There I was sitting back thinking I only have one known Reforee 45 to get and now its doubled to 2, (not withstanding the unknown issues???) Dave H. (TMIB) STILL NEED A PIANO COPY IF ANYBODY WANTS TO GIVE IT A GOOD HOME????????
  13. Bloody hell all these years and never noticed the different mix. Checked my 2 copies issue and demo from my coolection and both are strings version. Right then,..................I need ASAP a copy of the piano version DEMO & ISSUE any help let me know how much Cheers Dave H (TMIB)
  14. Its not a really rare record, as I can testify to having at least 20/25 (minimum) copies pass through my hands from a well known US dealer late 80s early 90s. I believe copies were in Soul Bowls soul packs also, unless thats an urban myth???? Most indie releases were of a 500 count from what info I have gleamed from label owners etc. The problem is it is a fantastic record ( one of my all time faves) and this coupled with low amounts available push up the price. Happy hunting. Dave H (TMIB)

I remember reading somewhere, that the drill hole and the cut out on the LP sleeve was for when they were used as ballast on ships. The customs people knew there was no tax to collect from them or export duty as technically they could not be sold. This being the only quick and practical way to mark and distinguish them from saleable/taxable records. Dave H.
  16. You might find the yellow copies might be demos/promos etc. All records dont have this wriiten on, but it is quite the norm that demos/promos are often yellow or white as they stand out. I remember mid 80s while on a marketing course and was told, the most favourable colour to market with is yellow, so a simple explaination prehaps?????? Dave H.

Just checked my discog, NO IDEA where I got Detroit from??? Got it listed as Detroit next to the label, so the mistake might be all mine. NO excuses if its wrong. SORRY With no specific info on the label, I probably second guessed where it was from, or was told it was Detroit by someone, going back to mid 80s on some of this stuff, again sorry for any confusion this might of caused. The Chicago connections are there on the label and I cant believe I never noticed it let alone questioned it? It also seems very strange that there is also another Chicago label and artist that are kinda similar. i.e. Bamboo.....Bombay and Fascinations....Fascinators???????? Dave H

Not seen the Geraldine Hunt 45 on the 2 designs before so thats new to me, you learn something new everyday. So even though they are different designs it about ties it up for me as being one and the same. Strange thing is the numbering for all the release is all over the place, which gets my brain thinking all different reasons why? Dave H

There are 2 designs for Bombay, one is defo Detroit the other is a complete different design, no info on where thats from..sorry. I think the Flash McKinley release is actually #4105 ( not 4505) so does not follow on from the 2 Detroit releases, unless you have a diiferent release number??? If thats the case then there are no missing numbers in sequence if that follows? As far as I my info goes there are 2 releases on this (Detroit) design circa 1964/65 Dave Halsall (T.M.I.B.)
  22. Technically speaking a "Nighter" should finish as the clock chimes midnight as it is then technically THE morning. If this golden rule is NOT applied very soon we will have "Nighters" going on for a couple of days and if that happens this will be the demise of the "Nighters" as WE know it . Now if this mismanagement is allowed to happen then the "Nighter" will be swallowed up into "Weekenders" The same can also be said about weekenders, you go to work Monday to Friday and have the weekend OFF, or so your boss dictates???? So how bloody come "weekenders" can start on a Friday and last till a Monday. Now if the bosses start that kinda thinking for a weekend off, then it suits me Its about time somebody did a 2 week all inclusive package holiday where Soul nites, Nighters and weekenders are all rolled into a 14 day SOUL binge. All inclusive would HAVE to mean ALL inclusive, there would be white powder everywhere The Man In Black

I cant really believe I had never thought about the fact that some of this label comes from Detroit considering the DETRIOT bias on it.. Lack of info on the actual label is my excuse DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your never to old to learn The Man In Black

The US numbering for Kwanza label seems all over the place because it is consisitant with the numbering of the US Warner Bros label. These releases came out on WB as well and the numbers are the same for both labels, thats why there are big gaps in Kwanza label numbers as other releases on WB did not come out on Kwanza label. I have a list of 9 issues on this label. No time at present but if you want them listed I will try to put them on tonight. Hope that helps The Man In Black
