  1. As you see, a few gaps, but I doubt the numbers have much relevance to be honest! 128 - Lowell Fulsom - Stop & Think/Baby (Also released on Moving label with the same number and B side) 227 - Ray Agee - It's A Helluva Thing/Tough Competition 235 - Vivian Claibourne - Don't Leave/People Will Talk 337 - Janice Cooke - That's How Much I Need You/Alone To Cry 406 - Zeke Strong - Every Woman Has A Right/Cry You Cry Alone 1730 - Lyn Defino - Such A Hard One To Lose/I Laughed At Mama 7100 Zeke Strong & Wanda Richardson. " Every woman has a right" Part 1&2 8351 - Kenny D. Freeman - Smile/The Ultimate Prize 9301 - Clay Robinson - Bip Bam Thank Ya Mam / I'm So Glad I Found You Different orange label design and name Prowling rather than Prowlin' 406 - Zeke Strong - Cry You Cry Alone/North Beach Swim Also instrumental version on Progress label which Zeke Strong seems to have been involved with. He recorded records for them and his group provided the backing to Cookie Jackson's 'Do You Still Love Me'. Vivian Claibourne - Don't Leave. Interestingly Vivian herself seems to have left a comment. 'I'm Vivian Claiborne, and I'm totally blown away to hear this song I recorded back in the 60's. It was recorded at, "Tangerine Records" owned by Ray Charles. If you're familiar with Los Angeles, then you know the recording studio was located on Washington Blvd. near Western Ave. Thanks for uploading. Singing gospels now!!! Much Love' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vbtQrhAeMc
  2. Does anyone have a Prowlin' records discography?
  3. Well since an hour-long set is about 25 records x £25, you're still looking to spend £625 on it.
  4. To sum it up. Nothing happened between Wigan closing and the film. And brogues and baggies look ridiculous. But - hey all you kids out there! You too have power to create anarchy as long as you practise your spins, handstands and backdrops.
  5. I don't remember it being remixed on that LP, but then again it was 30 years ago I last listened to it.
  6. Someone got a bargain for a 1966 classic then... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rachel-Sweet-B-A-B-Y-Stiff-records-1966-Northern-Soul-/351181214940?pt=UK_Records&hash=item51c40814dc
  7. Now $4.95.

Me and my teenage mates played boots and reissues (well - Sue, Soul City, etc) and compilation LPs in the 80s but that's because we were skint and were only trying to entertain ourselves and our mates, not compete with serious all-nighters. Once we all got decent jobs they were out in the bin, which may have been a mistake given what some people pay for them now!

Can we move a few to Edinburgh? I don't think we have enough here.

Thanks Benji, apparently she's decided we're going to the 'Atomic Cafe' on Neuturmstrasse and that's that. German women can be so pushy!

Will be in Munich in November visiting an old girlfriend. Any soul events? I went to a venue near the Ostbahnhof a few times but she says it's now closed. Anyone know of anything?

I think the fact that they have 'Limited UK test press Number -/-' on the sleeve suggests that they are just trying to kid people that they are something rare, valuable, interesting, desirable or collectable, whereas they are, in fact, only useful for turning into ashtrays or flowerpots.
  13. 'Nortern Soul' can be productive on occasion...

    One on Ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vernon-Garrett-If-I-Could-Turn-Back-The-Hands-Modern-Northern-Soul-7/171442385516?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107083358%26meid%3D4040e85e8f174b88a216eb0837a297b8%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D20140107083358%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D360957822262

Is there any point in this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Christine-Cooper-Heartaches-Away-My-Boy-SOS-Parkway-DEMO-OSV066-/121426547165?pt=UK_Records&hash=item1c459611dd https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dee-Dee-Sharp-Comin-Home-Baby-Standing-In-The-Need-Of-Love-Cameo-DEMO-OSV0-/111451839620?pt=UK_Records&hash=item19f30c1c84
  16. Vows - sorted. Nice.
  17. I have encountered criticism when playing a few 100 Club 45s at dos, usually the 'it's not original' line. How exactly you can make it 'original' other than getting in a time machine to, say, 1965 and convincing the owners of the track to release the record back then is a bit of a problem mind you.
  18. Couple on the RnB/popcorn side if anyone's got them. Lazy - Tommy Turner - Elbam Goofin - Charlie Russo - Port and Motown magic... The Vows - Tell Me - VIP Thanks for looking.
  19. Not sure I'd describe it as strictly an all-nighter scene. Soul nights have always co-existed with all-nighters and have their own distinct history on the scene albeit usually in a local context. Why even Blackpool Mecca wasn't an all-nighter and neither were the early 6Ts events.
  20. I did that and was most interested to see that they turned up in a local DJs playbox a bit later!
  21. I read a book which mentions jazz collectors getting fake labels made in the 30s and 40s and glueing them onto totally worthless records and flogging them off. At least the Northern scene never sank that low...as far as I know.
  22. Or as someone (may have been Pete Townshend) put it when asked why early rock and roll and rnb/soul records sounded so raw and vital: "they used simple recording equipment to capture the performance of the artist(s). That's all there was to it".
  23. They can chuck out the orders all those 'lookalike reissues' for a start!
  24. Watched it on the internet and like most 'bio-pics' it suffers from not really showing the complex personality of the man or the excitement of his stage persona very well. It also had an irritating narrative style of jumping about from decade to decade - very annoying. To be honest I watched about an hour and then switched off my laptop and went out and did something less boring instead.
