I always liked a bit of jazz funk, good for practising my shuffle. As for moaners...
  2. Mysteriously the Sam and Bill demo is also for sale in his normal sales section for the auction final price. A mistake or has JM got for than one copy?
  3. Oh it's a great track - both sides. I suppose it is 'played out' a bit, so you need to drop it in the right place when people are in the mood for a few all-time greats.
  4. I think it's just become fossilised as a '£600 record' and that's that. Never mind how many are around or whether it's desirable or worth having for DJing. Last time I played it, the dancefloor reaction was zero!

The 80s were 30-odd years ago and there are masses trying to emulate this sort of thing now and kid themselves it's still the 'in thing'. At least Northern knows it's living in the past!
  6. I would think if you're being cremated, 'It'll Never Be Over For Me' is a little inaccurate.
  7. Ah, but in Manshipland, anything can happen. And usually does.
  8. I would have thought that about £2000 would be realistic - working out at just under £70 each.
  9. I've been asked from time to time by young mods/soulies what got played in the 'early days' (how the f**k would I know, I was only born in 1965!). However, I usually point them to things like: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/resist_retreat/randy_cozens_top_100_soul_chart__the_mod_top_100_/
  10. Manship has a copy in what seems like EX+ condition on his site for £150! Must get some factory sample stickers made up!
  11. I would sincerely hope that 'they' don't care for existing rules and customs too much. Youngsters should be making their own scenes and looking to entertain themselves - not us old baldies. If it be RnB, Crossover or Northern soul-based, good luck to them.
  12. Never mind who's on the decks and whatever they are playing. Can we please just get some dancers under the age of 30 up on the floor and save everyone from watching fat, wheezing, oldies like me and my peers having heart attacks whilst everyone thinks we're just doing some interesting floor work.
  13. The AGE 29118 version was indeed the earlier RnB version. Great record! Think it got quite high in the 1963 RnB charts too.
  14. If they start their own events there won't be any problem.
  15. Given that Northern Soul has had almost no influence on musical style (some artists have tried to ape it but only sporadically), you could pick almost anything!

Oh my god, I had almost forgotten those! How about 'Cool Off' by the Detroit Executives then?
  17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYEGteLbxYU A great performance! And the Mod girl in the orange mini-dress wasn't bad either. Any Stafford Lorraine Chandler or Popcorn Wylie footage out there?
  18. Indeed... have been offered several copies over the years, but since I can't stand it - I passed. Certainly far from the usual idea of what 'Northern' is and It does seem to have attracted an audience outwith the usual circles as I've heard it played at funk and house nights although I doubt the DJs there would bother shelling out over a grand for an original.
  19. Where Have All The Flowers Gone - Walter Jackson Baby I Need Your Loving - Four Tops Where Do I Go From Here - Junior Lewis Probably one with female singers too, but I can't think of any right now...

    Cooperettes... Copperettes...
  21. How much will this little lot go for? In theory, each one is worth say, £50-£150 each so either this is going to be one of Manship's biggest-selling auction items or someone is going to get a real bargain. There must be a few other people who have the full set too. Sadly I only have 5 of the 100 Club 45s!
  22. I got Rita Dacosta and The Hesitations for nothing from a guy I knew at school. "I'm finished with Northern. Here, you're wanting to get into it so you can have these boots" At the time (1981) I had no idea what a bootleg was, and only discovered they were real when I bought the Manship guide. Sadly I also discovered several things I thought were real...weren't!
  23. Phil Flowers sorted.
  24. I would imagine it's easier to pass off counterfeits of more sophisticated 45s with expensive paper labels. good quality vinyl etc than some crappy styrene disc with a roughly printed label.
  25. I can just imagine the scene as you fix the 'daddy there's no milk for our Frosties' problem by producing some massive hairy spider and then squeezing its spooge all over the kiddies' cereal.
