  1. I have the Joe Johnson with the picture sleeve. It's great!
  2. There are a few not from Chicago, but most are from there. Please PM to reserve. All are U.S. graded and are very conservative grades. The vast majority are playing much better than visual grade. All prices in U.S Dollars. Offers considered. As promised, here's a list of (mostly) Chicago original soul 45s. The first 28 have Renee's name written in marker anywhere from 2-4 times on each label (and on both sides in some cases). These records grade VG overall, but I played many of them, and they play better than VG. The remainder of the others on the list vary but are graded. Send me a PM if you're interested in any of them. Thank you. Please let me know by the number at the end of the listing which ones you fancy. 3. This record is likely under most people's radar screens, but this is one to consider. This is Minneapolis' first-ever R&B record, which features Maurice McKinnies, who was well involved with Black and Proud Records and other R&B, soul and funk projects and also features Morris Wilson, another Minneapolis chap whose records command 4 figures. A couple of sites indicate this record came out in 1960 (and one early book about Minnesota music), but I have been told it came out in 1958, and this would make sense, as it has a foot in early doo-wop as well. The record is being offered for $25,000 US or best offer, with clips and label scans as well. The record is in (U.S. grading) VG to VG+ condition, much closer to VG+ than VG, with paper sleeve scans and no feelable marks. There is a catalog sticker on one side that should clean off just fine. Enjoy! https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=231125690107
  4. If you decide to collect Motown, I would echo the sentiment to buy what sounds good to your ears. I had a copy of the Irene "Granny" Ryan 45 but was able to pass it along to a label completist who didn't have it. The one Motown 45 I only had a chance to get once that I traded for that I've never seen again...Buttered Popcorn by The Supremes. Love it.
  5. I had a 45 I cracked while cleaning on Pzazz (don't recall title) that was in great condition except for the crack. Played great all the way through on both sides. Was worth about $400 in one piece, but still sold it on for $80 cracked. I was pleased, as it was better than throwing it away.
  6. I just played copy 0945/2000 that I bought in London at Fopp last week (the only copy they had). All of the correct singles in there. No label issues, no jumping on the Temptations. All tracks play just as they should. Result!
  7. I just returned from a trip to the UK with 3 days in London and 4 in Manchester. I found most of the vinyl in London to be horribly overpriced. I found the best deals outside the city.
  8. I won't be able to open it until I get back home later in the week, but fingers crossed no duplicates.
  9. I picked up #908 yesterday in London ar Fopp. Only copy they had at 45 Pounds. Fingers crossed no duplicate 45s inside!

Yeah, Pete, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons had a lot of hits, but it just doesn't do much for me. To each their own..

Actually, it's the only Frankie Valli 45 I like, and I really love it. Beggin' doesn't do much for me, I'm afraid. The market must have dropped to the floor on Beggin'. I sold two copies a year or 2 ago for almost $100 each, but the last copy I sold only brought $10. Cheers.

    No, just on UK 45.
  13. @Daved, the Donny Hathaway box is on my list. I also have the Arctic Records CD box on my wish list (which seems to grow by the day).
  14. @Twoshoes, 25 Miles is one of my all-time favorites! I get the same shiver up my spine every time I hear it.
  15. I discovered soul music at age 35 seven years ago in 2007 trawling through a collection of 50,000 45s (sorry chaps, it's all gone, and not all soul). I listened to a lot of the records and got hooked and started collecting original soul LPs and 45s in August 2009. I still love my 80s/90s British indie records and CDs, but after listening to soul music all these years and going back and listening to the indie music, how much of it was influenced by soul.
  16. The Stylle Band - Gold Star Records/private label Minneapolis 1983 modern soul boogie/If You Love Me w/Money Hungry with picture sleeve. Sleeve is tatty on the top but is intact. Obviously done on the cheap sleeve-wise, so a miracle the sleeve is even present. The labels on the 45 are in EX- condition. The record visually grades VG to VG/$600 U.S. ONO. Express mail runs about $30 US.
  17. These guys are responsible for a great compilation of Twin Cities 60s/70s funk and soul and have a series of 45s on their own label coming out recorded in their own all-analog studio. This is great news! https://secretstashrecords.com/secret-stash-records-to-reissue-lost-soul-music-from-chicagos-one-derful-label-group/
  18. The one that is listing all of those Art Freeman 45s is a chap that works at Fame Studios, hence all of the mint copies being offered.
  19. Prior to attending University in 1987, my taste in music was not that broad. I fortunately had a record store within walking distance to the university that had import CDs, LPs and 45s in every week. They had all of the latest LPs in a box next to the turntable, which is how I dicovered a lot of new bands, in addition to picking up NME every week. I went over the deep end in terms of 80s/90s British Indie, something I still enjoy in addition to 60s/70s soul (which I was only turned onto in 2008). I used to buy a lot of British Indie music up until 2002 or so (and I still do from the bands I enjoy from back in the day -- 80s/90s bands), but something about British music after this point generally seemed and seems boring to me (with a few exceptions, of course). American bands (with a few exceptions) have rarely done much for me in terms of interest. I have seen the NME at the bookstore and even downloaded a free edition and had no interest. I don't know any of the bands. Between what I listen to, which is basically a body of music from 1965-2002, I have plenty to entertain my musical interests. Someone I worked with asked me how I hear about new music. I listen to some online services, check out stuff friends post on social media and newsletters I get, but told them most of the new music is not of interest to me. I told a mate I was so out of touch that Wierd Al Yankovic's albums don't interest me anymore since I don't know the original song he is parodying.
  20. I echo all of the above, but having a location that's easy to get to and reasonable in terms of flights is a huge factor for me (I'm in the States). A weekender is a hit, because it's the only time I get to see some soul friends that live very far away from me.
  21. It's gone private, so I can't see it. Can anyone post what it's called so I can look at it on Facebook or online? Cheers.
  22. I follow a few Northern Soul groups on Facebook. One person today posted a crackin' track. Someone responded "I don't know it, so I wouldn't dance to it." These are the same people that want to hear some selection of 40-50 tracks and that's it. How dull.
  23. I'd be interested if there's an iPhone app.
  24. I love the backing arrangement! The vocals I could do without.
