About Phil Laing

  1. The Sunday Joint happens in an authentic basement bar in a legendary Liverpool club which has its origins with Jazz, 60s, Mod,Soul, R'n'B and Jamaican music and culture. The Sunday Joint is a bi-monthly event for like minded folks. From July it will be held the last Sunday of the month. It's hosted by DJ Phil Laing with special guest DJs selecting from their precious vinyl collections. The next Sunday Joint is 21st May it runs from 3-9pm and it's FREE ENTRY. The line up is : Phil Laing, Dave Melling, Ian Walker, Andy Rowan, Cally and from Liverpool's Sink Club we have a special guest DJ Stan Evans spinning some tunes.
This was the 3rd Sunday Joint at the Jacaranda as this event is a new addition to a vibrant scene in Liverpool. The basement bar has a very 60s feel due to the authenticity of the venue, the ethos and the music policy. It is a relatively small venue which adds to the intimacy and friendliness of the event. The music is carefully selected from treasured vinyl collections of local DJs/collectors and the musical spectrum ranges from early R'n'B, Ska, Soul, early reggae and Mod. the FREE entrance is an added bonus and the event attracts a cool crowd of people who share the same love of this beautiful music. It is run bi-monthly to keep it fresh and to complement the other solid bi-monthly Liverpool Sunday dayer/night the Sink Soul Club. Future Sunday Joint sessions will have guest DJs. I think it's fair to say that the Sunday Joint is a welcome addition to the scene and it's varied music policy makes it attractive and a pleasure to the listeners. Here's to many more!!!!!
