September 12, 200915 yr howzabout SOUL EE (BY GUM) ?? or (somebody sat by me at a niter recently) and his words were " do you know there's some f*ckin' weirdos in ere!" See it is catching on already! NOTICE TO POSTER: If you read the thread back carefully you'll see I have already claimed the title 'Weirdos' lol
September 12, 200915 yr Soul freak was in common usage in the 70's. Your completely right there, mate, it most certainly was and come to think of it, it was very widely used. Heard it thousands of times unlike 'Soulie'.
September 12, 200915 yr Cheers. I thought you said it was DThewossisname that dissed the term anyway? Are you a Soulie Chorley? Infact I moved to suggest you change your username to Chorleysoulie - how about a little of that? No. On both questions.
September 12, 200915 yr Author Soul freak was in common usage in the 70's. Ooh yeah completely forgot about that one.

September 13, 200915 yr We were soulies 30 years ago and i don't see why that's a problem now. I remember getting off the train at Wigan with the Nuneaton lot and some Scottish lad who was on his own and wanted an escort through the gauntlet of punks up station road to the casino said to us 'Are you soulies?' gave me a warm glow of unity and it still does. Trouble is people keep turning up telling us what we should be thinking, what we should be liustening to and even what we should call our scene and ourselves. Soulies is only naff because some trendy twat says it is. Bollocks i say. Too True Matt...too true...me??...soulie then ...soulie till death..and folk can laugh all they fooking want mate..if they choose coz i dont really give a foook!!!!...xxxx
September 13, 200915 yr I'm a soulie...have been since 1974'ish and will remain one til the day I die. Age is just a concept/number. Oh and I'm from Darlo in the North East and I have always gone a-soulin. Mind you soulhead has a nice ring to it...househead is generally accepted so why not soulhead?

September 15, 200915 yr I am now having a crisis of identity reading this post. I have at one time or another, been all and none of the above at the same time. travelling from London to the north on the hoof back in the day I had to often think on my feet when questioned about were, why & who. The Committed sounds appropriate
September 16, 200915 yr I remember being approached at Scarborough in 1980 by a parka wearing dwarf who asked me if I had any 'ampheties'. I had a Wigan badge on my levi jacket so he evidently thought I was a Soulie, even though I wasn't carrying a record boxie at the time. He was given short shrift. This story is true, I have witnesses. "Witnesses" The other 6 dwarfs I presume!
September 16, 200915 yr have you ever been to dallas debbie (sorry couldnt resist) she might be too young to have watched movies like that!
September 16, 200915 yr Although I prefer 'soulie' (which I can say I've heard for 25 years or so), I see nothing wrong with Soulboy/girl. I'm pushing 45 and consider myself still to be a scooterboy. BTW, if you want a daft name 'mod' must come pretty high on the list.
September 16, 200915 yr she might be too young to have watched movies like that! Thank you, what a lovely man! Its always nice to hear that you look too young!
