Toughie this. Pretty sure it's from a free Scenesville tape, covered up as "There Was A Time" - Butch sounding male mid tempo stepper. If ever a record sounded like a thousand pounds on first spin, this is it!

Yeah I've got the tape. I haven't got the lead that goes from the headphone socket to line in, else I'd freecorder an mp3 of it. Feckin amazing track. Maybe I'll write on Dawn's wall, see if I can speed things along ...

Andy Dyson I think the first to get a copy from Rob several years ago, about the time Lifeline started or just after and went big on the all-nighter scene. This was after Andy Rix had retired.

As well as those mentioned, I have a copy and several others now.

there is no price, it is unissued. Few copies given to DJ's by Rob. Others got hold of it as these things happen.

I got a slightly different take via a friend in Philadelphia. Kae was a local D.J. and I did have an album of his on Junior records (sadly, a compilationnof other people's stuff). I believe he's dead now.

I'm not exactly sure when I first played it but seem to think it might have been at a Cleethorpes Weekender .... I'm fairly certain it was when I first played Moses Smith - Try My Love, which I c/u as Bobby Sheen ... I had them cut on the same acetate

Maybe somebody will know when that was but I packed up in in 2003, I think, so it would have been a couple of years prior to that

I was wondering that. What was the original copy Andy, an acetate, a master? Are there several acetates and everyone else has carvers? Any more test pressings turned up? Great Look At Your Box info.

Not exactly ..there is no 'rea' acetate ... just the original master tape from which my acetate was cut via a CD.

It was Rob Thomas who subsequently gave CDs to others to do with as they wished.

I was never that enthusiastic about the track. I thought it was average. Rob simply loved it

I think it's a great track Andy, simply, sparce but infectious. Never really got the chance at the time with you retiring to reach it's potential.

I'm told you were playing it the year we made those t-shirts of you - 'by the powers of Sydney Hall'. Lou Courtney and Barbara Lewis were the turns - can't remember, but remember the stunning gold dress she wore. One of the Shirebrook lot was raving about it and we foolishly offered you a Danny Woods on Correctone as a swap (you offered us 'This Time' Ray Pollard and something else (which I foolishly refused - but that was Cleethorpes in them early days, drunken daftness).

I liked it but didn't love it

Not quite .. I did rate it but I didn't like it as much as the other stuff I was playing so it was down the pecking order. A lot of people did like it so it was sensible to listen to the opinion of others who often had better taste than I did. I think i was pretty narrow minded but not completely oblivious

I suppose it is a little different for the likes of me who has never been in the position of having totally unknown stuff to play.

If it had been me I would definitely have played Our Love Is Dying and would not have played Switch Around.

I didn't think you were being funny at all . It was a totally valid observation and a good question to ask.

the fact that I adore Switch Around' just shows it's different strokes for different folks.

I guess the important thing is they both got played and people had the chance to decide for themselves

I'm really pleased Kae Williams is still out there and giving people enjoyment
