First label - white demo a 1968 Los Angeles first crediting of the David and Ruben which emerged on Warner Bros in 1969 - slightly inferior and re-mixed. This is of course the 1965 recording of the much-loved Northern Soul classic first credited to the Majestics on Linda in September 1965. All you need to know from a NS collecting perspective is, you are viewing by far and away the rarest format you could ever hope to own of this wonderfully uplifting vocal-group Northern Soul anthem. This excruciatingly rare PROMOis just immaculate!

As expected it sparked off serious auction rumpous and ran well into overtime as ownership was fought over. Before you today, we kid you not, is an astonishingly Mint - copy, sporting “as new” vinyl and two totally perfect labels - we are genuinely awestruck at the condition and this 50 year old 7”. For the Motown “nut” the flipside “Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right” is the extremely rare alternative H699 mix.

Where were you when you first heard this Philadelphia NS masterpiece? I was at Kirby Lane Youth Club Melton Mowbray, circa 1972, when Trevor Hurd had just acquired a bootleg acetate along with Lenis Guess “Just Ask Me” the ensuing 2 minutes 20 seconds of magic had such an effect on me, I still remember that special Friday evening of Nolan Chance, Frank Beverly, Lenis Guess, Otis Smith - two acetates and Trev was King for a month. Those were the days - Today Frankie sounds every bit as impressive as he did back then - this is the significantly rarer GAMBLE copy in really fine condition. A shiny gold “CHIPS” Promo sticker on the flipside label.

A sleeper poised to wake! It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen this New Orleans double-testament of Isaac Bolden’s writing and producing talents. Topside is strong punchy on-the-money Northern Soul, with the flipside dropping a pace as Isaac B. adds in an “Impressions” style vocal-group to back up Marty’s growling vocal. Two superb examples of the street-level Soul the city was creating during the 60s. Today in 2011 you don’t need us to tell you why vinyl in the Carnival town is now near impossible to acquire. Snapping these Katrina-vinyl-orphans up as soon as they become available - is sound collecting advice.

This offering is not only, note for note as captivating for the Northern Soul dancer as it’s predecessor - this acetate carries the extra-added bonus of NOT being issued as a 7” in any format - this acetate was cut in 1984 for a handful of selected DJ and only issued by KENT as a track on the Maxine Brown LP “LIKE NEVER BEFORE” also long deleted. Check out - what a spectacular example of girl-vocal Northern Soul this is. Exceptional is not to strong a word - so rare it’s near to being exclusive!

it took me many years to get a copy, nothing like high prices to bring a bazillion copies up for sale all at once.

Bob....there must have been 3 on here in as many months for $200 and the same amount on ebay too.

Proof alone that whoever bought it off john,does not entertain ebay or soulsource.
