Autumnstoned
Used to do a bit of recording in studios when I was younger so was interested in looking at the tape machines and consoles etc. There is a photo of a AMPEX AG-1000 16 Track 2" Master Recorder ( now uploaded below) apparently the very first unit arriving at Mira Sound Studios New York. The Recorder was apparently used, later, in the day on "With this Ring" by the Platters ( brilliant track incidentally) . That would have been 1966? At about the same time the Beatles were still using 4 Track technology over at Abbey Road and recording Revolver. The USA has always been ahead in the technology stakes and it just goes to show what brilliant engineers they had at Abbey Road. Have very much enjoyed surfing the photo's on this site and no I can't recognise any of the unknown groups. The pics of the teen band are very good and the dude smoking the pipe is classic. As you say, one to keep an eye on for new interesting photos. Cheers Mike Edited January 6, 2012 by autumnstoned Link to comment Social source share
