I run a monthly small-scale pub night and this young guy who comes frequently told me the Brothers Johnson were his uncles. I would like to play something from them for him, but I normally play more 60s stuff and the vids of Bros Johnson i see on youtube are not that appealing to me (mild synth-funk). does anyone know of anything interesting from them that i could acquire that i could play for him without making me barf?

"Deceiver" on an A&M 45 is great modern soul. Could once have been a big record on the UK scene, but wasn't.

"Strawberry Letter 23" is a classic of course and even better than the Shuggie Otis original for my money.

I haven't listened to a lot of his catalog, but I also would recommend strawberry letter 23, one of their biggest hits and should satisfy nephews who might not know their uncle's obscure songs. It's also less synth funk.

"i'll be good to you"................is a nice mid-tempo mover from them.

Gotta agree with Gareth and Bob, 'strawberry letter 23' is a stone classic.

And light water soul could check out brothers Grimm version of 'looky looky' which ain't bad but got nothing on STOMP
