When the legendary Cleethorpes Winter Gardens held their very last event only a few of years back all the original DJ's turned out to pay homage to one of the greatest Northern Soul venues ever, and the promoters by Mary Chapman and Hubby this groundbreaking holiday destination will go down in history as having not one but two All-niters running simultaneously.

Who could forget the 1975 Winter-Walk of death from THE PEIR heading south down the North Sea shore for 1/2 a mile to THE WINTER GARDENS.

What has erect frozen nipples, blue nose & fingers got to do with Delreys Incorporated? Well, some 30 years or more later at the Re-Union this was the most requested 45 of that day.

It was, after all a CLEETHORPES MONSTER...

She Blew A Good Thing

Some records are just so well-constructed you never tire of hearing them. I heard this played at The Irish Club, Nottingham all-niter recently; it sounded every note as "fresh" as it did back in 1970 when I first heard it at the legendary "Brit" club.

It's classic and a timeless one, so when we discover a copy in blinding flawless condition I feel like it's 1970 and I living my teen-soul-years all over again when I scoured the junk shops, market stalls for a copy of this and most everything the "Brit" spun back in the day.

It is 42 years on now, I must admit I've never ever found a copy "junking" nor am i ever likely to. In this condition - impossible!

Curtis Mayfield's genius seeps from every note, as this 45 paths the way for them to become first the MODS darling-group and then Northern Soul icons.

That is because the scene is full of DJ's with no imagination who dare not take a chance on a record, they have to play a guaranteed floor packer every other DJ is playing in case they lose a booking. It is a f*cking great dancer, better than some of the dross that is masquerading as Northern Soul. What more does a DJ want in a record?

If Butch played it and it went massive they would pay five times this for it!!!!

Same with the Delrays Inc, not too long ago they could pick that up for £150....now a few Dj's behind it and it is again a big record they will pay through the nose. There is no way on this earth Delrays is worth half what the Limelights is worth.
