How many times has somebody told you about a great record and as soon as you research it you find out it's a b-side of something you've already got e.g. Daryl Banks - Open The Door To Your Heart and Our Love Is In The Pocket?

How about Bud Harper & the B side of "Mr Soul".

............ that beat your pick Kegsy ....

... (even though u r a very knowledgeable guy)

Edited by Roburt

Hi Kegsy

Great shout, I'm hoping to find a few things in my own collection that I don't already know.

I was at a venue in Walsall and heard a Betty Harris sound on Action,Trouble with my lover.

I bought this when released in '69 and only ever played the A side. Ride your pony.

Steve.

Hi Roburt,

Good shout,

Let me love you, good sound,

I had to check out the B side of the only other Bud Harper I've got.

B side of Wherever you were is Let it rain . Half decent Ballard.

Guess what, I'd never played it.

Steve Glover.

"He's all I got" The Supremes cannot think of the A side  Where did you go The Four Tops is another probably loads on TMG

I listened to a record the other day that sounded like the same backing as where did you go but cant remember what it was, could be a girl thing?

'He's all I got ' is B side to 'Love is like an Itching in my heart' , as you say great double sider ! and Four Tops other side of 'Ask the Lonely' another great Double

Swifty

Eugene jefferson-pretty girl dresssed in brown/high pressure blues, len jewel-all my ggod loving/the elevator song, ronnie forte-whiskey talkin/nervous breakdown, soul city-who do you think you are/cold hearted blues.

Hi Otis

I've not heard 2 of these tunes, nor the B sides of Len Jewell, or Ronnie Forte.I'll play'em over the weekend.

Good shout, Steve.

Hi Swifty,

You've named my all time gave, ' I have faith in you ',but you're right about Joe Murphy.I've had a browse tonight and dug out a few things.

How about,

Change your ways. / Whats that on your finger. Willie Kendrick. RCA

What can I do. /. Tell me you're mine. Lorraine Chandler. RCA

I'd like to know. /. Could it be you. Sharon Scott. RCA

I saw Derek Martin at Cleethorpes 2 years ago , FANTASTIC. One of my faves is ' If you go ' on Sue. Check out 'A' side ' Count to ten' a TOP Beat Ballad.

KTF. Steve.

I believe that In General, less attention to the B Side allowed the creative amongst the team to release these gems without rules or pressure Vs chasing Chart Success at the time.

  • The Dance Craze of the Moment on the "A Side" : Pressure from the Top etc
  • The GEM from The Artist and all concerned on the "B Side"

This process allowed us to see a different CHUBBY CHECKER for Instance

A: Do The Freddy

B: (At The) Discotheque

Agree with your theory...but...my take would be that the ballad/slower sides were usually aimed at the charts, whilst the 'let your hair down side' was usually the dance track on the B side.

Steve,

was at a niter in donny and johnny manship was behind the decks, a couple of records into his spot, he dropped this tune in, me and my mate looked at each other and said, wow this is a tune, i went storming up to the decks to see what it was....THE TOPICS - IF LOVE COMES KNOCKIN - CHADWICK, I'd had the record for a dozen years or more and never ever played this side
