Wondered which folk prefer.

Pro's and con's for both I spose. With the soul night you get 'a life' the next day. But is there anything to touch a great allnighter though?

I know you hardcore dudes are gonna say both with whistles etc and furry muff. But overall, I'd be interested to know who has a preference.

Also, this doesn't warrant a separate thread, but who do you go to soul do's with? Always the same people? Different people? Yer bezzy mate? Bird? Jack?

Nighters Its everything that surrounds it two..........meeting up first at a house, the 2+ hrs traveling, stopping at services getting all manner of items the warm up do's, the company, the music, the feeling, coffe talking bollocks in the morning, the 2+ hrs journey home talking even more bollocks, back at first call even more coffe and talking even more bollocks.

All though i do like soul nights and will go to them if mates are going/no nighters on, most of the time end up doing a soul night on the friday and nighter on the Sat or visa versa. But nighters win hands down

Soul Nights. I'm feeling my age(50+) and some would say looking it!! Besides the wife is suspicious if I'm out all night (I have previous, know what I mean!!).

If the soul nights local then usually go down by myself, but otherwise with friends.

Well, who'd have thought it?

Nighters win for me - I'd like more nighters on a Friday though so I could occasionally visit the people I work with on a Monday.

Fridays;nighter saturdays;nighter sundays;dayer save bank hollidays;nighter thats in a perfect world the weekenders have taken care of that now though,people too busy saving up for these,too be driving all over the place cant remember the last time i had the perfect,authentic,N/Soul weekend,the traveling about allover the shop,meeting folk on the way,the services on the motorway soul nights,weekenders save Cleggy,are a poor subsitute for the real N/soul weekend,thats not saying weekender are bad,but old style i knew who i needed to know,now the weekenders i dont know any chuff!!,part of the buzz was after being up two day`s or more,walking round town showing of your N/Soul credentials,and seeing the look on the faces of the locals,at 7am of total bewilderment,as a group of off they`re chewy face Soulies,start showing off there new dance moves,looking through strange little boxes,with great big smiles on our faces,and antics we got up to aswell.god i miss allnighters........

Prefer nighters for the general buzz, and feeling safe in the knowledge past 3 most of the people left are really soulies

Do more soul nights these days though, as my recovery period has lengthened

As for who I go with, no major emphasis on any of the groups/people mentioned, and if I really want to go somewhere, quite happy going by myself, I'm always aware there'll be someone there I know when I arrive at my destination ;-)

Allnighters are great but I generally don't feel right until about Wednesday.

As for going to nighters on your own, I think that's a good thing, but be mindful of the 'Brett Syndrome' what did he say about 'soulies who annoy' ....

Bet you would prefer DJing at nighters,than some half hearted S/Night anyday? besides you dont go nowhere if you where more reguler it would help.....................

Well said Baz, sums it up for me. Its not just the nighter but all the other stuff that goes before and after. I don't really do many soul nights to be honest, just because they end too early But on a friday is ok if fairly local, wouldn't travel for a soul night really.

As for travelling, I tend to go with the same group although not exclusivly, have been on my own before but didnt like it, waiting for a mate to turn up wasn't the nicest feeling

How do you know back on topic, Dome was a jolly good night and by the time I got home could as well have been to a nighter

Do dealers (record) prefer nighters for trade? I'd guess so. Seems to be just as many at the soul nights though. Venue plays a part as well I guess.

Soul Nites Friday Niters Saturdays some times go with tother arf but in the main been goin to soul nites & niters with life long and the best mate anyone could have Nige Brown but yes Niters do it for me but would sooner go to a good soul nite than a bad niter but for a great all-dayer sun sand and rare soul Heavenly Blocked dose it for me every time with some of the countries Northern Soul DJs plus the best from the South West

I remember those days, quite often Friday niter, Saturday niter, then Dayer on Sunday (Brum Locarno was the best). How the hell did i do it and why aren't i dead..?

I'd also like more Friday niters, recovery time is much longer these days after a Saturday.

Now they have changed the licence laws a venue could have applied for longer licence but most didn,t cus of the cost of paying bar staff think that is the main reason behind it but yes mini niters till 4 depends how long you have traveled to get there spose

And how do we get home?,sorry Mr Sims you are the Cunnie from the sarf dont travel more than 25miles max from you`re front door why?,fukc your soul nights,there for the mid-week and thats how it should be,soul nights what a waste of getting blokced time ,easy for them in city`s they get passing trade,so whether we turn up,usualy dont matter..............but they poach nighter DJs,when there no nighters what they gonna` do then?,so they have some sorta` street credability,keep it undergroung,keep it allnight,allright,underground/allnighter being our "street",in that case we/you should give it more respect,and put allnighter before some disco in a pub,probberly run by part-timers.............

Not true and not fair there mate to be honest. Have traveled far and wide in my time. Family life can change all that though, ask Dan. Although with great soul nights like Plinston, Scenesville etc not being on as frequently as they were and Luton and the Dome also being a bit infrequent, one does feel inexorably drawn towards the north.

Soulnights for me. It's hard enough getting released for these, let alone an allnighter. If I wish to attend an allnighter I have to apply for leave from the wife at least 24 months in advance!

Nighters Nighters Nighters - every time, travelling to & from is so much fun, starting drinking too early, forgetting to eat, stumbling into a venue in some half forgotten town, saying hi to familiar faces, dumping the bag under a table somewhere, only to spend an hour looking for it later, getting out on the floor for the first time, talking crap at the bar, making new acquaintances....sometime after 3am the hours take twice as long to pass & are filled with more happiness than I've ever experienced on concrete, then suddenly it's 6am & the last hour goes by in a flash & it's time to start peeling my friends off the ceiling to try figure out how to get home without getting in trouble at the air or sea port, waiting, waiting, waiting to get to the next bar for a few stiff drinks
