Just caught part of a documentary on BBC4 all about a Rock & Roll weekender,originally went out in 1990 or so.

Anyway it showed a bunch of folks dancing,dressing up and generally enjoyng themselves to exactly the same set of tunes they had cherished for 30some years.

Agree with Dave on this. Come on people LIGHTEN UP! Each to their own and there's plenty of room on the scene for all styles, be that oldies, newies, Modern and so on. We don't need to be fueling civil war.

As I was some one who was once part of the Rocking scene.. not the rock'n'roll scene or rockabilly scene... The Rocking Scene..

I even met my wife at Hemsby at a Rocking weekender..........

You shouldn't try and pick up on a tv programe and think you understand it.. It's a bit like when you see Northern programes on telly.. they don't come across with the true picture...

I didn't see the programe, but I bet they showed stereotype rockers.. not the well dressed Rocking crowd, that can pay anything upto £500 (I'm going back to what I know these prices are from about 13 years ago) for a Gab Jacket, I once paid £80 for a tie!!! 2nd hand shirts usually cost around the £80 mark for a good un.. (13 years ago)

On the Rocking scene they still dig up new tunes ...

Like any scene.. Lets stick to what we like moaning about .... Modern, Oldies X-over R'n'B etc...

And leave other people alone.....

This programe did they show the rods racing down the beech on a saturday afternoon... or 40's/50's pick up trucks full of beer and all your mates... belive me, people that do theese weekenders are into what they are in to, the same as us with our Northern... Unfortunatly the rocking scene has died a bit.. Cars (yanks and rods) are to expensive, clothes are getting rarer...

One thing the Rocking scene has over the northern scene you get to dance with your wife and not on the other side of the room...

After all its about having fun and good times aint it...My freind told me about a certain rare soul? dj sitting on the stage at the 100 club and saying "look at these folk on that dancefloor,i can't bring my mates down here, its not cool"..If he thinks the 100 club aint cool then its time for me to hang up my dancing shoes..We all know some glum people on this scene,why do they come out just to have a moan about everything..Keep smiling,it don't cost anything...

I think I get your drift and if I'm right, my conclusions are the same.

The original scene was pretty much the height of UK cool. Then we got old, stopped taking drugs and chasing women...

The badge of cool passed to another generation.

As a 70's baby (god that sounds so much better than just past 30), i have come to thinking that we deserve special rights, perhaps even a charter.

It seems that a number of DJ's and record collectors have stated that they are going to the grave with their records!! Leaving us relatively young'uns short of a few tunes....or quite a few less tunes if there is a mass cull.

I propose that a young'uns charter should include "adopt an oldie" (bagsie Anita as my yummy mummy).

We can buy them the odd drink, suffer their endlessly repeated stories about the Torch, Casino, school milk and the flying-drop-kick into-double-backflip-into-box splits move that they used to do before even putting their bag down.

In return we inherit the tunes...or at least get a substantial discount and first refusal.
