Hi, just checking.

ive never ever heard of anyone else having a copy of this track - i'd love someone to prove me wrong.

i got 5 copies of this when a local night club closed down in 1983 and they had an auction - i was the dj at the time and got first pick - they were a box of tracks they found under the stage and used to give away as prizes for birthdays etc!

the singler is L:aura Nyro, ex singer from the fifth dimension.

would appreciate any comments on the tracks history (if any) and also on your thoughts as to the track itsself

I know its a bit cabaret but ive had this on and off the decks for years now - prob once a year and it kinda grows on you.

Nice easy going tune - Certainly heard a LOT worse - Remember years back someone spinning me a LN 45

on Verve Folkways and sounding pretty good - Cant remember the title. She certainly has the musical

credentials of that singer /song writer who puts out a decent slab of music. Be it folky/jazz/ etc.

Laura Nyro was not in the fifth dimension, they were a black group, laura nyro was a prolific and very talented white jewish singer songwriter with a fantastic voice who wrote many big hits, some of which the fifth dimension recorded and had hits with. If you're interested in her music you should get the laura nyro and labelle album

which is soul covers and is a great album.

Just reading the dedications on Laura nyro's website, she must have been about 49 when she passed away, not old by ne means, sad.

My first knowledge of her was finding 'Eli's Coming ' on CBS and thought , thought what a great voice, as a northern fan, thought it was bordering norther soul.

Wonderful LP indeed - I worked for the record company (BGO) that made this classic available once again. For me it was the undisputed highlight of a strong reissue catalogue. Laura Nyro had a 2cd retrospective available via Sony called "Stoned Soul Picnic". While it doesn't fall into the remit of real soul (blue eyed or otherwise), it is recommended for anybody of an open minded musical persuasion - kinda soulful jazzy folk!!!

BTW - the soundfile is the previously mentioned "Flim flam man" track...

I had one of hers on Verve Folkways which was bordering on Northern called....'Stoney End'.

Also had one of her first albums which had loads of soul on it but can't remember what it was called now and I think that was on Verve Folkways.

Fantastic tune from a great artist/songwriter.

Barbra Streisand also recorded that tune and had a gigantic hit with it in 1971.

I love Laura Nyro's "Eli & The Thirteenth Confession" album mentioned above.
