Heard a Female sounding vocal over the backing track to "Back Street" yesterday. (99% sure it was the original band track, not a cover)

Seemed a tad speeded up

new to me, can anybody throw light on this please?

  • I’ve just had a listen and I now know why it was something I’d forgotten all about and erased from my memory.  It is utter crap 💩 why would anyone think it worthy of playing out?

  • Get some cotton buds before you listen to soak the blood up 😂

sounding like it may be just a pitched up version of the original

thats usually a key factor

No....it was a female vocal I think.....different lyrics altogether.

Played a Prestwich Conservative Club , Manchester yesterday by a guest female DJ who did a nice spot. I think it was her who played " Change what you can" Marvin Gaye.....record of the day for me.

my impression was that it was the original backing track, different vocal.....BUT didn't sound an authentic Ric Tic Detroit 60s sounding track.

i.e. a vocal has been dubbed on it.

I've never heard a female version, either has to be one that has had a vocal overdubbed or the Edwin vocal messed about with, the pitch changed.

My impression was that it is a dubbed vocal....female...different lyrics ....and perhaps sped up.

And the volume seemed muted...i.e. not a legitimate 45 that would have the usual mastering, volume etc....a bit like early pressings.

Tina Lewis on Inferno from about 1983. A Chris King recording over the flip side of Edwin Starr.

There's also Shake It by Matt Lucas from the mid 2000's using a thin recording of the orig backing track, again released on Inferno.

Sounds like what I heard...but the sound from the decks  was so muted that I coudn't hear the lyric  which of course is a "tepid" attempt at the correct lyrics ( sort of).

Wish I'd seen your post before listening to the clip above lol.. diabolic

If I'm not mistaken, also featured on the B side of the Rictic Revue album with a version of " The Way You've Been Acting Lately " also by Tina Lewis , Inferno 12 Burn 3B , if anyone wants to give it a spin .

And I guess the b side to Back Street on a 7" ,
