I have a Keni Smith "lord, what's happening to your people" on general america records. Looks authentic, well worn label, b side a bit grubby, looks like it has been around for a while white label with black writing.

How can I tell if its an orig and does anybody have a value for one?

Also the original spells his name as Kenny. The boot spells it with an "I" instead of a "Y"

And isn't the original a little bit longer, with an accapella and handclaps fade out ?

It certainly is - the boot ends with him shouting "I wanna know Lord" and it's dead, the orig carries on with "whats happening to your people" and then it goes gospel. The version on Goldspot is different to this one in case anyone didn't know. Very similar, but a different take.

fantastic record IMO!!!! the original GAR demo has both sides pressed the same! was the boot different?

I cant remember the difference between the mixes on the two labels, could somebody kindly post the two so we can make a comparison pse.

But I think, it was a re-recorded by Kenny himself, I know he was contacted by a lots of people early/mid 70's and was aware the record was getting played in the UK. Maybe someone in the UK, with Kenny had a hand in it ?

Goldspot is the original. Kenny then went on to become an executive at GA Records.

The book price for everything is OTT going by the amount of people who sell on this site and have to half the book price to make a sale! And that includes me a lot of the time. I'd rate the GAR issue at about £150 - £175, a few years back it was very hard but there's a few turned up since, I'd never refer to it as a second issue though!

I'm not sure mate,I'v never had two in the same room at the same time to compare labels.I only recall hearing the 2 different versions already posted though

I didn't see one til Tim Ashibende had one in about 1997 but have seen a few since then.

Thinking of it,I doubt whether I'd sell mine at all as I doubt I could ever get one back easily.I bought the Gold Spot one out of curiosity at a Coleville nighter in 78-not in the same league IMHO.

Whenever a Kenny Smith on Gold Spot appeared on Soul Bowl lists, it was on the "rarities" page and wasn't very often, so I'm guessing John Anderson regarded them as legitimate at least. They were also listed as the "original label".
