ebay shipping cost

I just won an auction from the states and it said paypal ships first class only. turns out the shipping costs are $67.00. seems an unusually high amount as the last couple of singles I've got from over there were a few dollars shipping. For a copy of Gladys Knight stop and get a hold single worth £20 - £30 I am obviously concerned that its bumping up the costs significantly. Is this unusual?

Same here. I got a record from the states, I paid $7.50 postage, and that was on a £85 record.

Put it in the feedback, when and if you do decide to get the record or if you decide not to go ahead, put your reason why clearly.

if the item you bought was $60 and the TOTAL was $67 inc p+p then thats ok, if he is charging you $67 on top of the item for postage/insurance alone then the clowns clearly trying it on. I can't believe anyone would seriously try to get away with that? Not unless you have accidently purchased 2000 copies then the postage may hike up that much.

I would put negative feedback to warn others and if you does the same to you then place a comment under his reply stating what he did.

I can only imagine you read his message wrong? either that or his padding the parcel out with bricks?

no way mate does it cost $67 postage for a 45 from the states, usually they charge about $5-$6 for shipping, max i have paid is priority air mail $10 - depends on which part of the states it is. some do try it on for the xtra few dollars but you cant complain at that, but $67?!! r u sure you have read it right and that it doesnt say $6 - $7 dollars. postage costing more than the record - bollocks. i'd tell him to shove it, but as the other posters say be careful with -ve feedback as there may be reprisals. get in touch with him mate and sort it out amicably (if that fails tell him to **** off!)

grant

p.s. it would be cheaper to fly gladys knight and her pips over to the uk to sing it live to you!

He sent me an email this morning saying the postage was $64.00, I have replied asking for clarification from him. His email was very badly written (he is from New York though so he is probably can't clean his gun and type at the same time). I did think maybe he is going to personally deliver it to me. (the single not the gun)

Is he sending the record in an armed car with a police escort or something??

Seriously though, if this is the P&P cost on its own, he's taking the piss. You should report him to Ebay for what they call "Fee Avoidance" and inform him of your course of action. Also ask him to justify the postal costs, and to give you a cost breakdown.....I bet he can't!

Anyone buying on Ebay should beware of postal rip-offs, as there are a few around. The best thing to do if bidding on an item, and there is no P&P stated, is to Email the seller FIRST to ask them of their costs. Then you can either accept, challenge, or refuse. However, if you have bid wihtout doing so then, legally, you have entered into a contract. But $67 P&P, whatever the circumstances, is no excuse. I'd be keen to know how you get on, and the best of luck! Don't let him get away with it......

PS - worth checking his feedback to see if he has tried it on elsewhere.

Best,

Gene

issue now resolved. He entered the price of the single at $58.65 and then under postage he entered the price of the single again plus the postage at $64.65 making a frightening total of $123.30. He then sent me the following email

i made a mistake when entering the shipping i think it is $64dollars and some cents please for give me

Well to me that is rather ambiguous and suggests the postage is $64. I have sorted it out and he meant the total cost was $64.65. The confusion was more to do with his incompetence and lack of literacy than an attempt to stitch me up. There is an important lesson to be learnt here in that I will be overly cautious in checking any shipping or hidden costs before bidding.
