Interesting to know for my self and for others.

Who are the djs out there, Were they live and what styles they play. It would be good to have a list of djs that are for hire for promoters ect.

Has this been done before?

I WILL START

I'LL DO IT AS LONG HAS I CAN BRING MY SMOKE AND BUBBLE MACHINE TO KEEP AEROBIC INSTRUCTORS FROM GETTING TO THE DECKS AND CAUSING ALL THAT F***iN CRAP

Steady on John LoL ! True in what your saying though !

3. I live in Lowton, And around a 100 mile radius is not a problem. Can travel further but would require notice to organise, with family commitments.

4. My actual DJ ing experience is about zero. I did an hour at Prestwich 8 til 9.(wow). However have decks and use them almost every day, so know my way around a mixer confidently.

5. Contact me through PM for info on booking, if required.( Can't do 1st friday of the month. Resident and Co-promoter with Ste Longworth at Soulful Shack in "Culcheth" Royal British Legion Wigshaw lane Warrington WA3 4LY.)

1st Feb is our first do....8 til 1. Try and make it, especially if you like the look of the 'taster' set above.

a great post turned into a fooking stupid load of ** ARSE**

no fingers" my opinion" post wasnt aimed at you or anyone, too many post to remember what anyone person had said to be honest !....it was just my take on things after reading all the posts....

when i said "never been easier" i meant you can reach hundreds of people without leaving your house to advertise your gigs where once you had to go to gigs with flyers, paste posters all over town and then do it again the following week after they had been covered up or taken down...

your local could be either a pub, function room or club, trust me its as hard to do a real northern night in bristol as anywhere, ive done gigs where the only requests i get are motown ,aretha and james brown by people who havnt got a clue about northern...by the time theyre pissed you can put the decent stuff on and theyre loving it....then again last friday we had a real northern night where there was only a couple of dozen die hard soulies and vinyl collecters turned up,all friends of the 3 djs....we lost money but had a wicked night still and we will be doing it again next month

ive heard some djs who do tend to play the same tunes whatever the venue and carry on if the floor empties and even if those tunes had been played that night and yes we can all make mistakes but ive also heard people make too many mistakes ...

but like i said thats just my opinion

And that's fair comment! Appreciate you taking the time to respond further - and is the reason I made an apology in advance.

The main problem I experience with 'the written word' is the fact it's left to the individuals own interpretation, and because there are no pre-determined 'accents', for example - as you would get with speach, I appreciate (as you obviously do also) that with the best will in the world how people read something is not necessarily the way the author has intended it (hope this makes sense!).

I take an age in compiling some of my postings to try and reduce the risk of this happening - but obviously I didn't do a good job! But will also try to be polite and 'neutral' if I feel a return comment is necessary to respond to (if only to reinforce any point that has appeared unclear), & I hope that was reflected to you.

I avoid pub do's because of the same problems you mentioned - but will also say that, some of the best nights I've ever had have been where attendance has been p**s poor! So... when's you're next one? Need a DJ?

agree entirely about your views on the written word....in fact theres a bit of a feud between a couple of scooterists down here in bristol because of things said on a keyboard, nearly kicked off at my scooter do on saturday...think it still might...and as i get on with almost everyone im kinda stuck in the middle !!

no need to apologise....the new soul night we have started could have potential....last friday was the first one and we lost money...if it takes off like im hoping it will then there maybe room for guest djs and i will be in touch

Anyone's interested into an old Oi music spot...? Cockney Rejects, 4 Skins, Business, Cock Sparrer, Angelic Upstarts, etc. etc...?

Original vinyl only.

I'd be interested to know

Where it gets played.

so I can stay as far away as possible :lol:wave.gif

I used to do security on the scooter rallies.

My Governor knew it wasn't my taste of music, so to keep me off the dance floor and on the door whatever room played the Oi, that's where I'd have to be all night. Drove me bonkers wacko.gif

Jokes aside

Each to his/her own

:Pthumbsup.gif

If people want to book me, they usually pm me....... biggrin.gif and i'm not going to tell you where I live....Harlow's near enough - damn, I've just told you laugh.gif Style - anything that takes my fancy but mostly Detroit and then maybe a bit of RnB, but i might go all 7Ts - i just can't decide :P Jo

Jo is more your Y2k STYLE DJ WITH A LITTLE DEEEEEEEEP DISCO THROWN IN.. .. I am her agent...

Yes a dj list on here would be good... Maybe with a little profile too..

Think it's a great idea to profile the unknown/lesser known djs who do it for the craic. Fair play to the big boys/girls who have reached the top and are always given max. exposure because they pull in the public but it shouldn't become a cartel. For our Ad-lib Soul/R&B,Lincoln night on Sat 12th we've promoted the djs with profiles/photos to give that personal dimension.

..I prefer Dj's that play 'soul' music that moves your feet.

Not boxed in by prejudice or non-definable genres such as 'Northern Soul' (which is an attitude rather than a style!).

Dj's that support venues as a punter, not ones who only go out if they are djing! And who arrive at the beginning of the night and stay until the end.

Dj's who dont do it for the money.

Dj's who listen to music...sounds a starnge thing to say, but I feel MANY dont!

Dj's who look through sales boxes and dont get spoon fed what they should play by big dealers.

Dj's who dont care how cheap a tune is and dont say things like "its a big boy tune".

Dj's who play the music so that it flows seamlessly from one tune to another and provides a 'spot', not a bunch of dis-jointed records with a load of mundane chat and boasts inbetween! " its this rare" and "that expensive". A bit of talk is ok, but i go to dance, not for a sermon! You cant understand a word they say on most of the s--t sound systems at soul events anyway! If the tunes are good they dont need geeing up!

Dj's whos personality shines through their set, not their chat! Music, music, music!

Dj's who have a play box, full of tunes that 'they' love, not full of stuff they are bored with, but think other people might like! I want a glimpse of 'their' soul. Not the top 500's.

As in a previous thread - I call my self a league 2 DJ.

Been Djing on and off for 33 years - Firstly as amobile doing partires weddings etc.

Then in Clubs in and around Manchester.

Then on the Northern scene - I did Jigsaw at Farnworth - which was an U18 night and all they would ask for was The pearl Girl by The matta baby. used play it at least 4 times a night.

Then having become friends with the late barry Stanton I would do oldies spots at Blackpool casino.

Got out of the Northern scene in 1980 and went back to doing parties weddings etc.

Did the odd Club in the 1990s before meeting up with the Gasher ,Tubbs & Sepia 7 years ago and have done spots in the soul scene again for them and Dundee.

Ran my own Disco soul night once 3 years ago when only 6 people turned up but they enjoyed the music.

So thats me!

Been offered to do radio stints but being single dad makes it difficult.

i agree totally!!!!!

Anybody can play records............................

imvho To be a good/respected dj you need to have that sensory perception that says this unknown record will work and then the b###oks to play it , and more than likely clear the floor a few times....................

Not saying every one works .....but without this turning up of unknows the allnighter scene would very quickly die.

They were all "newies" once!!!!!!!!!

Most if not all "new" sounds are played at nighters first.

Check out the earl lewis 45 ......its almost ready to go (if not i really do have "cloth ears") well thats tired me out! .......time to dream about finding a few more nice 45s....
