There Was A Time?

Recommended Posts

i know I should know this and I am sure that i used to have it, but for the life of me i can't remember the title or artist. It's a fast funky track and the first lyrics in the song are 'There was a time, when i used to dance, there was a time when I used to prance' Later on in the song are the lyrics, 'I may not do the dance as well as you, but you can bet your bottom doller, I will scream and holler, and do the best that I can do' Than it goes into a massive funky guitar and sax riff.

Please help.

Ta!

One, two, three, four

There was a time

When I used to dance

There was a time

When I used to prance

Dig me now, baby, ha

Don't worry bout later, ha

Here's a dance I used to do

They call the mash potato, oh

Lookie here

There was a dance

They call the jerk

Everybody relax

And watch me work

All right, lookie here

In my home town

Up here with the boys

The name of the place

Is Chicago, Illinois

Up there, we have a good time

We don't talk, ha

Lyrics courtesy Top40db.

Instead we all get together

Any type of weather

Then we do the camel walk, wow

All right, lookie here

Now there was a dance

That I used to do now

The name of the dance

They call the boogaloo, ha

I may not do the dance

As well as you, ha

But you can bet your bottom dollar

You'll never hear me holler

I'll do the best that I can do, wow

All right, lookie here

There was a time

Sometimes I danced

Sometimes I danced

Baby, sometimes I danced

Baby, baby, baby, yeah

They call me the woman handler

They call me the woman handler

But you can bet you

Haven't seen nothing yet

Until you've seen me do

The Gene Chandler, wow

and twat gene chandler on youtube in the 80s :thumbup:

A geezer I know - a drummer, used to play drums for Gene Chandler. He said he was a twat! A tight twat too. One morning on tour in the hotel restaurant he turned to the waiter and said "Give the boy biscuits for his breakfast" referring to the geezer I know.

Fooking hell I'm so slow. I thought you were calling Cene Chandler a twat - you were simply using an anacronym. How ironic - he is a twat my mate said so. And he was rude to Harry - so he's a fooking twat!

:thumbsup::thumbup::unsure::lol::lol::lol:

haha, fan-made videos to songs are always funny but that is the most over the top one I have ever seen. The best is the transition he keeps using where the screen rolls up into a ball then splits in half and moves away.
are you saying he is a twat then,ha ha,:thumbsup:

Funniest thing I've read on here for ages, Peter.

Even had to explain to the Mrs and the kids why I was in stitches!

:thumbup::unsure::huh:

Personally, I've always found Mr Chandler to be the perfect Gentleman.

Yes absolutely agree Sean. When I interviewed him on radio he was fine, just didn't want to talk about the mid 70s.

I think with a lot of these guys we idolise there is probably a dark side lurking there somewhere.

PS Fantastic instrumental version of "There was a time" by The Dapps on King.......£15-20 and well worth it.
