THERE IS ALSO A VERY RARE WEST COAST RELEASE ON LANDA. PLAIN BLACK RELEASE WITH SILVER TEXT ALSO THE ACCOMPANYING WHITE DEMO WITH DELTA NUMBER.

The philaofsoul is not just a "national release" it is a reissue of the track from 1975, about 10 years later. "get out" was actually a national hit in the US when it came out, it was probably reissued given the popularity of the group by 1975. In my experience the phil-la of soul is harder to find, there were probably more copies pressed of the original when it was initially a hit. Mayber the philaofsoul one was imported to the Uk and is common there, though, I don't know.

However I found that the Landa Copy is harder to Obtain.

Could be that they are tucked away in collections,

sorry, i didn't know you were commenting on demo vs. issue, I have no idea about that, I usually find the landa record (trashed) on issue, although I have found it on demo.

I think that It was a General Phil_La_Of_Soul DEMO V's the Landa Copy.

As to which came out first.

You raised the point Regarding Landa as a National Release.

I never thought of it as such, however, now that this thread has progressed.

2 Different DEMO's & 2 Different Stock Copies.

Probably reissued due to it's release on Route records in '75, down to it's popularity on the scene.

it was issued in 1964 originally and bubbled under the national pop charts at no 124

it was issued on philasoul to tie in with the route uk hit from 1975.

For what it's worth... in my experience the scanned black issue is, at the very least, 'difficult' to aquire - with even ME being able to count on one hand how many times I've come across it in almost twenty years (over a thirty plus year time-scale!). Bearing in mind that my 'nickname' is, really, quite appropriate... that certainly ain't very many!! & a calculator would defo not be required!

I do feel quite certain that, if Boba's observation were correct, the 'market place' would've seen a lot more action on this release, over the years, than there has actually been ?? - regardless of condition too! (Just expressing my sentiments of course..).

I must also confess to not being aware (or not having remembered being, perhaps, more the case!??!) the release on Phil-LA... but that don't count for nothin' really.. just me being the fine, honest, upstanding citizen the police think I am!!

Someone already quoted the record's position in the pop charts. "Get Out" made #38 in the Billboard r&b charts in 1965 (debuted on 1/30/1965). This is from the Joel Whitburn book. This means it actually was top 40 r&b for at least a second. I specifically know that this record got some play in Chicago just because i do ocassionally find it (in very bad condition though). Obviously this does not mean the record was a "hit" as in selling millions of copies, it does mean that it got national play at least.

I was importing from USA and distributing in UK after that and they custom pressed me a quantity, I would say between 1,000 and 2,000, around 1978/79.

We sold all those copies of "Get Out" and I think we may have gone back for a second lot too - it was the Benny Sigler's we couldn't give away!

We even went to Laurie and got 4,000 custom press of "I'm On My Way" off them AFTER the Casino Classics 3 Before 8 release was deleted.

As an example of the demand in those days, look at The Poppies "There's A Pain In My Heart" custom press on CBS's Columbia Special Products label - we sold 20,000 of that.

And when you think of all the copies of Dobie Gray "Out On The Floor" that were sold on original imports, bootleg imports, Black Magic and Destiny in the 70's - when I licenced it for Inferno in the early 80's it sold 30,000 plus on two different sevens, plus pic disc seven and 12".

Blimey, Neil, think of all the nice looking gold discs you could have on your wall for selling 20,000+ copies of anything nowadays!

I don't know how I'd missed it but, surprisingly, I'd never seen this on Phil L.A before (to be fair I'd never actually looked for it!). Am I alone in thinking how much more aesthetically pleasing it looks with a fishbone at the top of the label, rather than a bunch of bubbles?

Just a thought, but wasn't it bootlegged as a facsimile "LANDA demo" also? That may account for seeing less of the black label "issues" nowadays!
