As you know the casino music policy changed 3 or 4 years down the line,when they put the regular music playing on a saturday night then converted it to the last Friday of every month and class it as oldies,and yet today music which i've been hearing the last 6-7 years from the same venues up and down the country from well known top djs. So why don't they say its a oldies night? So if the casino can change there music policy, so why don't clubs do it today or they don't want to be tanished with the same brush,a straight forward question and straight forward answer.

Newies become oldies the day after you buy said newie sometimes this can be a bit later as in after you first played it and then put into record box to gather dust then it becomes an oldie

a lot of the top DJs must have records that people associate with them and as a result they will get played.

some of these records may have taken a lot of finding in the first place so will get a good spell of time on the tuntables.

I think it all depends on your definition of a newie and an oldie.

I always thought an oldie was something that was played and made big in the 70's before and during the height of northern, Casino etc. While a newie was something that became accepted on the scene after this time 80's Stafford etc. With this definition a newies always a newie etc etc.

Could be wrong though, its all a load of shite really.

I think he may have....

but saying that when I went to my first nighter in about 3 years a couple of months ago I didn't know too many. There were plenty of new sounds mixed in with the stuff I knoiw and like.

In our house there's no such descriptions. We do however have our own descriptions....Guddies and Shyties.

It's an individual thing, a lot depends when you first heard the record, if it's your first time or 100 then it's a newie, if you've been hearing it played out for the last 30, 20, 10 years its an oldie, that's my take on it, that's why I'm stilling coming across 60's newies.

Good point Billy. I think that's why I've enjoyied a few nights recently that have been billed as 'oldies' nights, because in our area they're becoming a rarety.
