  1. Kings Heath on the A435. If you're in Birmingham head out to Mosely and just carry on a bit till it becomes Kings Heath, it;s there. I'm pissed off as my young 'un is having a birthday sleep over on Friday with some of his pals at our house so I won't be able to make it.
  2. Ha...I've got a Samuel Curtis in my house.
  3. This used to get quite a few plays at Wigan Casino as a new release. Fantastic tune.
  4. I defy anyone watching that clip to have dry eyes... as you say Kev, utterly heartbreaking and emotional.
  5. My Favourite.
  6. I hope they were Northern Soul pyjamas Derek....... Now there's another idea.
  7. I think you're right Gogs on a lot of things here. The friendship and camarardarie (?!!!) has always been there and the crowd always accepting of people who couldn't dance or didn't look like soulies, if you 'got' the music, you belonged, and it didn't matter what other people said or thought as you felt proud to be part of this underground cool movement. The problem is now, all these years later, as other posters on here have pointed out, the coolness has gone and we are now a huge laughing stock for a bewildered public who think they now understand what the Northern Soul scene is. A lot of us don't want to be associated with that view of what the scene is. It's never been about tat merchandise, line dancing steps by numbers or a ridiculous uniform and I don't like the fact that the once private, cool and secret scene image has been hijacked and booted out of the window by people who don't even care.
  8. Hello Ivor, The problem is that the type of 'pop' sound that 'Love Feeling' was is not in vogue or popular anymore (generally) on the Northern Soul scene. Some might say it should never have been played in the first place. I would say it would be very doubtful if it could be successfuly reactivated on the Northern scene.
  9. This made me laugh Steve, nearly spilt my coffee over my laptop.
  10. .....real one?
  11. Sorry Rich, you beat me to the point.
  12. Brilliant clip showing the dancing. And nobody can tell me that the dancing would look better in comedy flares. I reckon good footwork always looks better in narrow trousers.
  13. Easy tiger. Has anyone slagged Pete and Sue off? I've read every post on this thread (have you?) and I have seen no dissing at all of anyone. Only the very funny clothes some people choose to wear for some reason.
  14. Absolute steal Steve, I reckon.
  15. Similar for me too Mark. It was also a feeling of total injustice towards the unknown guys that made this amazing music, when I looked at the crap that was getting rammed down our throats on the radio making talentless idiots rich and famous. It affected a lot about how I view life and people in general. Also the scene itself was f*ucking exciting to a youngster at that time.
  16. Yes I know Wigan could be sinister but I don't think it was to the the same extent as the rave venues, which were always out in the middle of nowhere in a field totally controlled by the organisers' security/drug suppliers, where everyone was off their heads like like zombiefied bambis, vulnerable to all sorts of shit. A lot of seriously heavy geezers were running most of the raves and the wealthy yuppies who were also organising raves were having to get in bed with them in order to put anything on for the posh ravers. Quite a few yachts in Marbella came from rave proceedings.
  17. I don't agree with this. The only similarity was loads of kids dancing their tits off to uptempo 'music' while up on drugs. The music was utter shite car alarm bleep nonsense that only became listenable if you were off yer tits. The dancing was drug addled hand movements and wiggles to a repetitive noise, nobody watched and admired other dancers for their skills. Most raves were extremely sinister, gangland run, drug selling, massive profiteering rackets for gangsters and wealthy yuppies. I don't think even the big oldies fests on the soul scene are anything like that.
  18. Great comment Dave...a future classic.
  19. Big favourite in my record room. Sweet Thunder.

One of my favourite 45's Steve. ("Talkin'")
  21. This made me chuckle. They're a rough bunch those leek growers.
  22. Nev will sell them all to you soon Russ.
  23. Yes Dan, I've got an original 45, but I didn't know it had been reissued on Tramp. I can see on the track listing for your cd that 'Get Away' is on it, I wondered whether you had reissued the 45 with 'Look and you'll see' on it as well.
  24. I might have been a bit over the top when I said 'dramatic decline' Eddie, but I think a lot of the bigger mid tempo crossover tunes that used to sell for money seem to have fallen out of favour a bit. A lot go for much less than they used to on ebay. There also seems to be a lot less venues and nights that specialise in playing this stuff which has also probably not helped. The Emotions is a great tune and I'm glad you sold it for what you wanted.
  25. Agree Nev. it used to be £200 but since the dramatic decline in demand for mid tempo crossover tunes, I would also say about a ton.
