  2. Superb mate!! Brightened my morning at work up no end. Jordi
  3. You won't find a better soul night Geoff than this. Me and Dave played there in June and we had a ball. The venue is pure class. Fantastic across the board music policy and tons of serious tasty stuff played, with a great up for it crowd. Edu and Christina who run the night are top, top people also. I wish I could be over there. Have a good 'un. Jordi
  4. Fabulous tune!!

I agree with you Mart, lots of what we like were local neighbourhood 'hits', big in the local dancehalls, a bit like Jamaica, although they didn't get the national exposure due to many different reasons not least being good distribution deals, dishonest deals/management, or the fact that most people tend to go with what's currently 'hot', meant that things probably didn't last too long before the next dance craze took over. When you've got talent spilling over like black America had in the 60's and 70's (and still does), it was probably less likely that people would hark back to halcyon times of 'good' music, but more likely try and be part of the next 'hot' style. Jordi
  6. Arnie, I think the ET White and Great Potential Band is about £60 ish. Jordi
  7. Get the 45, it's also got the other good track on the lp on the flip. Jordi
  8. I've just had another listen and perhaps I was a bit harsh in my first post. I think what SolidSoul has said is true, the production is good and exciting and would sound big played out, but the Everly Bros style vocals just make me cringe still and I know if I heard it out that would be the reason I wouldn't like it. Good job we're not all after the same things! Jordi
  9. I can't believe you're selling this Ted! Bargain price as well. Jordi
  10. About £40 ish on the Skip Mahony? Jordi
  11. Dreadful gar(b)age. Sounds like pinky and perky. (IMHO) Jordi
  12. Cheers now i have work out what to put on them
  13. Bollox . Another one I missed when I had the chance. I was offered one about 5 years ago for about $400 from the elusive Kevin in Toronto. I thought it was good but not what I wanted to spend that kind of money on then. Wish I'd bought it now! Jordi

Don't know the lp Toaster, but if Gilles Peterson has compiled it there must be some good stuff on it. To ask if you like Jazz in general, is too narrow a question I think. Too much of soul and Northern Soul is touched by Jazz for anyone to say they don't like it. It's deep into the music that we all love on here, more obviously on some stuff than others, but tracks like Royal Esquires, Cal T. Jader, Gil Scot-Heron, Celeste Hardy, right down to your 'Heartache souvenirs' all have jazz stylings or chords. The funk brothers were jazz musicians so a lot of the Motown stuff had Jazz influences. I think a lot of people think of Jazz as 'free form 'Jazz, where it might sound as if 2 or 3 tunes are being played at the same time, but it is actually America's finest art form and without it soul music would be a lot poorer. Jordi
  15. Kev, have you read the thread fella? Styrene, stuck on labels with stamp in runout and brilliant sound quality = ORIG. Vinyl with dinked centre of moulded label and shit low cut sound = BOOT. Unless there's a brilliant sound, vinyl, orig stamped press somewhere that no-one has come up with yet. Jordi
  16. Blake me old mate, that Sunday morning at Yarmouth in the record bar as you opened that door and virtually bashed into me with your record box, thus giving me first opportunity to delve, still brings a little smile to my face. To be fair, I wasn't sure whether it was orig or not at the time even though I had the dodgy sound vinyl boot already, it was Dave Welding who told me it was kosher afterwards. Jordi
  17. Baz, it went for $769 on ebay. Jordi
  18. Hi Nev, I think Craig Meoerer originally had these at about $275. A couple have gone through ebay cheaply, but I would have thought about £100+ should be about right. Jordi
  19. Ken, I've had both. I still have my styrene original and I sold my boot the minute I got my styrene copy. Those scans on popsike are the styrene ones apart from the second one which is the vinyl boot and has a pronounced dip / ring in the middle of the label. The boot isn't common and nor is the original, so I suppose not too many people get to compare them both. What is undeniable though is the sound difference. Jordi
  20. Yes, orig is styrene, boot is vinyl but it's a dreadful recording on the boot and a very low cut press so it sounds shit. The styrene orig sounds nice and loud and is a great recording and press. Jordi
  21. Glad you like that Jason, it's on United Artists and goes for about £80 now. Jordi
  22. Utter pile of cack in my opinion, but the flip is just sublime, fantastic slow/mid tempo crossover. Jordi
  23. Steve, that's Clarence Coulter you're on about and it's not on an lp.

Totally agree Rodge. Intelligent choice of tunes that follow each other well and are brought in with skill, whether they are mixed, faded out and faded in or nicely cut in, is much more of an art than beat matching for the sake of it. Jordi
