  1. Thanks for doing this Dave. We found it a great help when organising our 3 dates for Grumpy next year Even though we are not an allnighter, we still didn't want to clash with any if we could help it and found it an invaluable (and easy to read) reference.
  2. It is unfortunate that it has been tagged 'upfront' seeings as they are all 'old' records (the majority anyway). I would guess that every person playing records at events across the country will play a record that is new to someone. A record that is new to me might be well known or even overplayed to others. But so what? We all join this soul journey at different stages and we all hear tunes at different times - there is no right or wrong here. Pete Lawson once said to me - if a record has that 'magic touch' it is as good the last time you heard it, as it was the first time you heard it, no matter how many times you've heard it. The lad was right. One thing's for sure - it's not about us. The soul scene will carry on without any of us on it. The music is bigger than any DJ, any venue, any ego.
  3. Incredible tunes as always Mr Jones Gutted to have missed it. See you soon hun x ps: June Jackson - asweome!!!!

I think people may be a little reluctant to suggest somewhere just in case it's not your cup of tea given the distance you will be travelling. This soul lark is far from an exact science In answer to your question, Radcliffe is usually busy and there is the bonus of having 3 rooms to choose from. Come and say hello if you do make it!
  5. Went on the understanding that I would be reimbursed but it didn't quite work out that way Most enjoyable all the same.
  6. I'd pay it! (not that I'm expecting to DJ abroad anytime soon lol). I don't have expensive or rare records like the majority but I still wouldn't let them out of my sight.
  7. Sounds like that's the one Dave. It looked like an acetate on the deck camera - plain black. Loved it!
  8. I took a 200 box to Seattle and got it on as hand luggage (it went on the size of the luggage and not the weight) but regretted it because it was so bloody heavy. I would take a 100ish count box and put it in a holdall. Easier to carry and you should get it on board no problem. No way would I put it in the hold. Have you seen how they throw luggage around
  9. It was good to see you Billy! Dave played a great set. If you are reading this Mr Thorley - what was the second to last record you played?
  10. I don't usually post on these kind of threads because I feel there is no point but seeings as Saturday has been mentioned and I was there I thought hey ho. I was in there all night and I don't recall any latin being played in the Darwin Suite (it's not my bag so I certainly would have remembered). What did get played was mainly a solid mix of cracking 'oldies' for want of another term (they are all 'old' ffs) and top early 70s. Even Sam played a predominately 60s set with the odd 70s thrown in. If I go somewhere and the music doesn't do it for me - I just don't go again. Simple.
  11. I could be way off but I understood Mike to mean rather than post on another thread that may not strictly be about what you mean then start one that is about what you mean ... if you know what I mean.
  12. Your pasion and enthusiasm is plain for all to see Lou, so no need to say anything on that score. People will be people and there are some not very nice ones out there for sure. Nothing we can do about that. Me? I just surround myself with the good ones. Take care lovely x
  13. I wasn't talking about anyone in particular - I was talking generally as in I don't think the scene is doomed and I certainly don't think it's gloomy. I am as passionate as the next person and like the majority have spent many years analysing and talking about how things used to be and how I wished things were. Not any more. Well, not to the extent I used to anyway. One thing's for sure, there is no way I am going to look back in years to come and think I wish I had just gone out and enjoyed it for what it was.
  14. Have to say I have never been one for doom and gloom. I enjoy myself every time I go out, some places more than others of course, but so what? If somewhere doesn't do it for you - just don't go again. Simple. Life's too short to do something you don't enjoy and it's certainly too short to spend all your time moaning about it. It's all good if you want it to be
  15. I listen but that one definitely isn't for me my uptempo friend
  16. Apologies Soul Wolf. Hope you get sorted with one
  17. Actually mine could do with a new label - as could about 80% of my collection
