  4. Apparently, using the 'retail price index' £5 of 1978 is equivalent to £19.21 in 2005. Might make sense if you think about a loaf of bread or pint of beer, but doesn't seem relevant to today's record prices.
  5. Labels the size of Brunswick would have probably had some kind of automatic process of pressing up demos of their releases, but maybe in the case if H&H they were never sent out in large quantities, if at all, because of the feedback from pre-release radio plays. Straight to issue of H&H and national distribution for retail sales?

I think the consensus was that they're a boot, but done quite a while ago (70's). The last one I saw didn't have a b side, it had completley been obliterated, being sanded off on an angle grinder, if you can imagine what I mean. The owner thought it may have been a different artist which would have given away the fact that it was a boot.

Anyone remember that Virtue studio acetate called 'I didn't know' by VS? Not the strongest vocal, but musically OK
  8. This is really odd; in the whole of the Devotions track there's not one 'I', yes there's an 'I'll' so does your copy skip at that point? Broken record?
  9. Cavaliers mate........... 30 second clip, for educational purposes only. Please delete from your PC once listed to.

  11. I think the answer depends on why you want the record, to some degree; is it all time top want, label filler, ‘current must have’ for a busy DJ, one of those you’ve meaning to buy for the last 20 years but never got around to, etc, etc. Personally my wants list consists of about half a dozen records I must have before I pop my clogs, and then several thousand “would like to have” but not that really bothered one way or the other. If it’s one of the few ‘must haves’, then I must have been looking for them for decades, and would go well over the odds to get it in the end. However, so would a few other hundred vinyl junkies too! The ‘would like to have’ ones are the real problem in recent times; basically they all fall into the same scenario, i.e. in my mind it’s a £10 record, with inflation and current demand for vinyl I’d expect it to be £10-£15 (would consider paying that for it), but they’re all at sale at £100! (Interesting to know the true turn over rate of record now days.) Then you see it for sale at £50 and I think ah!, that’s half price, but really I know it’s 3 to 5 times what it’s worth to me, and so I think sod it I ain’t forking out over the odds for a record that’s just gonna sit on a shelf because from a nostalgic point of view over the last 20 + years, I’ve convinced myself that I really need one. They’re the ones that have made me a bit jaded with collecting over the last couple of years. Always thought if a won a few million on the lottery that I would go out and buy thousand and thousands regardless of their asking price, fill the SUV with £50 notes and head of to ‘Pork Pie Land’, but in reality I’d now probably come back with a few ridiculously over-priced bits of plastic and play them till they were worn out and would have thoroughly enjoyed owning them at long last. (Plus every known copy of Joanne Courcey and a sledge hammer )
  12. The original acetate is a "Cutlass" studio acetate as far as I remember. The take I have is poor quality becasue of the acetate and being a cassette recording of it. The original acetate comes to an end, and then about 2 seconds later they start up again with a final "can't say no", very odd.

  17. The only record I know of that was suposed to have turned up in a real thrift store in recent years (about 3 or 4 years ago) is some copies of Greater Experience, by a lad who was a PhD student into the beach scene records. I spoke to him at lenght about the find, and he claimed he was staying with his relatives during term time at xxxx (can't the town remember now) a town close to Danville. Found half a dozen of them at a few cents each and stuck one on ebay, and sold a few other to the next bidders. Mine doesn't look like the ones that Ian Clarke turned up years ago and so I was a bit suspicious at the time. However, I've not seen any up on ebay, etc since.
  18. What the differences then, just out of interest? Ta.

Bought an issue of The Tymes - 'Here She Comes', but it plays 'Anymore'. Then got a demo of HSC on a white demo which is HSC. Anyone have an issue of HSC that does play as HSC? Much prefer 'Anymore' to HSC.
