My hero would have to be Adrian Pountain, without a doubt. Half my collection are records he introduced me to, and half my want are also – he’s got a lot to answer for! . A man of impeccable taste spanning all types of soul music. He sold me many, many wonderful discs at I’m sure ‘cost’, if not less if the truth were told, for which I’ll be internally grateful for. I’m sure if he’d not pursued his career and concentrated on the ‘scene’ everyone would be saying “ yes it’s one of Pountain’s old spins”!
  4. Alway thought this overseas gent played some nice tunes, pity his command of the english language was so bad, never understood a word he said!
  5. 'let me do it' c/w 'can't fight the feeling' would go down a treat!
  6. Any progress with this possible re-issue?
  7. Could any kind soul PM an email addy & /or phone number for Arthur Fenn? TIA Simon

Doesn't the title of the song tell you all you need to know about the situation?
  11. I think Roccia is missing the point in that they're bound to sound somewhat alike because that was the 'in' sound of the times, and groups and record labels wanted to emulate groups like the Tempatations because they were selling literaly millions of records. The Ringleaders sound like the Temptones who sound like the Accents who sound like the Volcanos who sound like the Blenders.etc..........and that's just those two label outfits.
  12. He's really Daryl Franklin Hohl
  13. Just Daryl, Oates was in the Masters from Philadelphia too. There's a CD of Artic stuff and in the sleeve notes there's a peach of a picture of the Temptones, 20 year old going on 70, sports jackets and think rimmed glasses. Called the Temptones in reverence of the Temptations.
  14. No idea, but the Ringleaders where from Chicago & The Temptones where from Philidelphia (Daryl Hall, of Hall & Oates fame on lead))
  15. Because sound from vinyl is analogue it depends on the physical distance the stylus moves in the vinyl, to the volume of sound produced, hence on average, the less distance moved to lower to volume produced. The stylus moves from side to side in the track, bass being produced by a larger movement, treble by less movement but more often (higher frequency). Records with a predominately large bass element need to have wider tracks to produce the sound and so the 12” was utilised for ‘disco’ sounds and a 10”, at least, acetate needed to cut a decent sounding dub plate. Dig out your 1970’s Buddha 7’s out and you find some 6 minute tracks, but they sound very tiny in comparison to their 12” versions. Try checking a LP of classical music, little bass, and they can go on for about 8 days a side! Northern-wise the pressings of Gwen Owens ‘Wanted’; the one that jumps are the high volume pressing, as one groove encroaches on the next one, and skips, the ones that plays OK have a much lower volume.

Download is from your PM to your hard drive - right click on it and 'save target as' Try playing it by double clicking on the mp3 If no joy, right click on the mp3 and go down to 'properties' - about a third of the way down the boxthat comes up, you should see the text "opens with" and a 'change' button to the right of it; click on the button and choose say, window media player.

No idea, but I don't think there can be many Trade Martins about, in the music business around that time. The LP is from 1972. He also did two LP as ' Gorgoni, Martin & Taylor' A Trade Martin also had 7" releases on RCA and Stallion; 'She put the hurt on me' on Stallion was popular on the Northern scene and got booted to meet the demand. 'I wouldn't do anything (that might hurt you)' is also on the LP, and on the CD swap I sent you.
