  1. I really enjoyed this too. It makes you really appreciate how much good music has come out on that label when you hear one after the other. I don't agree with their mainly vinyl only philosophy though. I hope the forrthcoming compilations will appear on CD
  2. I can see that you've added the year to the title of each picture now thanks Chalky.
  3. Pity most of them don't have the year printed
  4. Melba Moore - Standing Right Here
  5. Ernesta Dunbar and Keith Nunnally - tunes! I used to hammer the Keith Nunnally relentlessly.
  6. OK, in an effort to be more helpful, I've picked this. It's not my favourite 12" of all time as I don't know what is but it's one that springs to mind as I never tire of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHt_IJM9S3c
  7. Blimey. It's like asking what's you favourite 45, LP or CD. Or even your favourite soul record. Such a broad spectrum of 10,000s to choose from.
  8. Agree with the above plus: Good sound system in each room
  9. It's like when Palace get to Wembley Steve
  10. It went commercial a long time ago. I've just back from Caister and there was a northern soul hour on there featuring The Snake and Do I Love You on CD . To be fair, he did play some other goos stuff like The Majestics, Adams Apples and Gene Woodbury. I had a bit of a dance. It beated standing standing there looking like a miserable chinstroker
  11. What was the song playing as he was driving up the M6?
  12. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7UqXw8-ENc Some other great tracks on this CD
  13. Maryann Farra is a great version and a great double sider too
  14. It never ceases to amaze me how many people misspell very famous soul singer’s names. For the record, mine’s Otis Reading
  15. I've got a couple more too. I can't remember the exact titles but one was full of instrumentals only. Soulful Kinda Music is a great LP.
  16. Congratulations Mike. I think I first visited about 14/15 years ago. Your early reviews of the London soul nights helped to get me out and about, especially with the lifts back from the Dome!
  17. Just bagged a copy without hearing it. Is it as good as Elbowed Out? Lol
  18. He was lead singer on the All Things Happen in Time LP, which was very good. Tell Me Why and Ain't That Love being particularly good.
  19. It's quite good though, isn't it? As long as it isn't a re-edit that's killing the scene
  20. In terms of the original question, yes too much overkill of anything is bad. Personally I prefer a greater proportion of new stuff and DJ's with imagination. Is tere a modern scene still? I don't go out much these days but there are certainly many variations of it. THere's plenty of dos advertised on EMS and I'm sure that a lot of the same people attend these. Down in Kent, there's loads of activity on the Caister / 70s,80s soul stuff. It's surprised me how popular it still is. It's totally different from what I know as the modern scene and it's more akin to the northern oldies scene with people listening to their faves over and over again.
  21. The introductory videos make me feel sick.
  22. Who cares? It wouldn't bother me at all as a punter.
  23. I didn't make it when I visited in June but it was clear it was popular. Almost sold out every night, great reviews and no reduced tickets in the Times Square booth
