More power to this kind of stuff. I don't know a single one of Karl's set listed at the top of the page but I'd love to hear them.
  2. I know he did but I thought it'd be a crack :D It is a good CD actually - it contains some of best, soulful r&b stuff from the 90s
  3. this one's pretty good

It also appeared on the Night Owl 3 CD, issued by Jay Boy about eight years ago.

It's also on one of the Night Owl CDs on Jay Boy. Night Owl 3, I think.
  6. There's clips featured in 35mm on Sky Movies this week.

Agree with lots of peoples choices, especially Otis Redding - Otis Blue. The ultimate 60s Soul LP imo. Other faves of mine are: Stevie Wonder - Innervisions Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On Anita Baker - Rapture Trina Broussard - Same Girl Luther Vandross - The Night I Fell In Love Maxwell - Urban Hang Suite
  8. Yes, Paolo does come across as a pretentious twat.
  9. Sorry if this is a daft question, but I wasn't around back then. Why would you want to bootleg a record which would shortly be going on widespread general release?
  10. They were a big influnce on me when I first started to buy them as a 14 year old. My fave Lps came out a few years later as I started to appreciate a wider range of sounds. Brainstormers and Winner Takes All were hammered relentlessly in my bedroom. I hadn't heard Two People "Stop Leave My Heart Alone" until I bought Brainstormers and it remains one of my all time faves.
  11. Great record. One of my faves! What's the going rate for this?
  12. Thoroughly enjoyable night at These Old Shoes. I think each DJ only got about mins each and some had to double up. The quality was consistent all the way through. Its amazing that a small midweek do like this has lasted 4 years but it keeps going from strength to strength. The three residents Jo, Paul and Martin have really got something special going on here. The guests are always good and their styles vary each month. Excellent CD was given away too. :-) Funny enough also featured in latest soul 24/7 newsletter as doing a show on Saturday 18th January Heres info below These Old Shoes We welcome Jo Wallace and Paul T-P to the guest host show between 6pm and 8 pm GMT on Saturday 18th January. Jo and Paul have just celebrated the 4th anniversary of their famous Northern Soul Club, These Old Shoes, and are squeezing in a visit to Soul 24-7 in between appearances all over the UK and Europe. Jo has recently put together an excellent series of CDs for Motown Records featuring lesser-known and rare Motown tracks. Jo and Paul will be playing "all sorts of interesting stuff" and will be happy to take requests and dedications by email to the studio on the night. Click here to view the article
  13. One of my all time favourites. I also love Ann Nesby "You Are My Everything". Loads of great soulful gospel tunes out there from the last ten years too. Israel & The New Breed "Real" and Norman Hutchins "I Really Love You" springs immediately to mind:thumbsup:
  14. I thought the purpose of the record was to promote a car sales business. Only a few were pressed and given away as freebies. Chalky's right. Dave Flynn used to play this regularly at The Dome. Not one of my favourite memories of the place
  15. Is it as good as the Rufus and Chaka Khan version?

  17. I only caught one song. It was a slow number and very brief. I'll have to locate the other song.
  18. Yes, he was great. He always is. A true legend and hero in my book. A pity Bobby Womack's brief performance with Gorrilaz was such an anti-climax.
  19. Jerry Washington - Don't Waste My Time. Love it!!!
  20. I don't think Clarkie was playing there as late as 1996. The first time I went was 1997 and wasn't part of the team then. The two warm up do's I remember were Devil's Den in a pun behind Selridges run by Terry and Ivor Jones and The Water rats by Kings Cross - both excellent events in their own right. The 100 Club was playing some great stuff then too - unreleased RCA, Ben E. King plus well chosen oldies.

Very sad. Very gifted man. Another one who was unable to fulfill his full potential perhaps for reasons beyond his control. Anyone got a full discography of his work? He did quite a few vocal guest slots on other peoples CDs over the last few years.
  22. Agreed Cliff. It just seems odd that it's in vogue again all of a sudden.
  23. They're all good aren't they, otherwise they would never have been popular and hammered relentlessly in the first place. I even include stuff like Wade In The Water and Beggin' in that category even though I'm sick of hearing them.
  24. As long as they're not spending their money on Lisa Stansfield, we should take it as some sort of good sign....
  25. I think he's fine. Nice fella. No problems at all
