Where Are We Going
Quite right. A bit ironic really - the fact that such a wonderful unissued song is only legitimately available on a greatest hits CD sold in supermarkets. Yet some people prefer an inferior bootleg because it's on vinyl and it's harder to find.

Where Are We Going
It's a boot, I think. The only official release is on CD and can be found in such specialist stores as Tesco, Asda, etc. Wonderful song.

Ebay Bargain
Excellent record Paul. Not sure I'd call £144 a measly sum though lol. You must have this record collecting bug bad.

Marvin Gaye Love Starved Heart Of Mine
1996 it was Martyn. It was Chris's 40th birthday allnighter and what a cracker it was. I had two of them but swopped one for a CD on the night

Keni Lewis - Not The Marrying Kind
Didn't Andy Rix have this too? I seem to recall him playing it at The Dome and Scenesville.

Modern Rooms
They used to be very busy - at least the ones I went to were - Bretby, Winsford, King's Hall Stoke. The music policy was about 85% new/recent releases and they rocked. (Bretby had a separate crossover room sometimes). I think the problem is nowdays that modern covers so many different genres and the rooms attached to northern soul events tend to lean more on the older stuff. This makes the room not significantly different from the main room, which is embracing more 70s these days. If promotors are going to have a modern room, they should be more bold and adventerous. They might even find that they attract different folk. There's loads of them in the south east, who have no northern soul history, who would love to go to that kind of do and enjoy the northern too.

Otis Redding
Otis is the greatest singer of all time imo. I think the best way to make someone understand, who wants to know what soul music is, is to play them an Otis record. Otis Blue is one of the greatest soul LPs ever.

Your Favourite Modern Soul Choons ?
It was issued on a Glades 45. A bit slower than the Millie Jackson but a great record nonetheless.

New And Contemporary Soul
Love it. There's still lots of great stuff coming out. Jill Scott, Trina Broussard, Eric Roberson, Mikelyn Roderick, Ruby Baker, Ty Causey are all right up my street to mention a few.

Patrice Rushen
Don't worry lol, I didn't take it personally. I'm wasn't one of them. Loads are still into the NS oldies equivalent scene though. I just think it's funny that some old Caisterites are now enjoying rare soul and NS fans are enjoying Lou Rawls and Patrice Rushen. I've always loved all of it.

Patrice Rushen
Actually Simon some of that crowd are listening to the likes of The Invitations and Chuck Cockerham. It's northern soul is it? But who cares. If Lou Rawls "SYWIGT" can get accepted why not others of a similar ilk? It's all good soul music as far as I'm concerned.

Levine Manifesto Interview
Arthur Fenn played those two plus many other goodies in his set (Unique Blend). Mick Smith played three good 70s in a row in his set I can other remember the Lil Major Williams/ whatever it was c/u though. Carl & Greg used to play the occasional one too.

Levine Manifesto Interview
Yeah, you're right Ady. I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned it earlier. Firstly, 70s records were played at the Dome. A small proportion admittedly but there was certainly no exclusion. I remember hearing stuff like Mind & Matter (I've got a tape to prove it), Jan Jones, Co Co & Ben, Bobby Rich, Lil Major Williams and others. Levine didn't DJ there and I never heard the Four Vandals played.

Kristy - giving You Love
That's right. Steve Plumb cut a 7" from some old acetates / tapes from unreleased material back in the 80s. The other side is good too. The quality of the recording is not perfect though unfortunately. It did get some brief exposure at the time - payed at Kings Hall modern room and various other venues.

Marvin And Tammi Remix
To answer your questions: 1. Yes 2. Maybe 3. If they add something to the original. This particular remix is rubbish imo. Too much drums.

Current State Of Northern Soul In Uk 2007
It's past its best imo. Not enough good music that I haven't heard before to keep me enthusiastic about it.
