  1. Got to see the film last night.... I was left needing something more just as it ended...I was really looking forward to the USA record trip.. Some pleasing moments but expected more after all the talk on social media and build up...Great location and attention to detail with wardrobe/ cars etc... Lead actor was a real find and kept it together for me... The drug use had to be included but I thought it's use throughout the film could have been taken up with some lighter moments... The grim up North feel in 1974 was pretty much as i remember it and youth club scenes really took me back, spot on... A great achievment on behalf of all involved, it's a mammoth effort indeed to bring it to the big screen... I know from experience that it's all in the edit, so much left on the cutting room floor, was expecting more dancing and casino scenes with the people I know who were involved and the years of dance training.. Only so much you can fit into less than 2 hours I guess... 3 out 5 for me...
  2. I have been to events in USA, Australia. Italy, Spain, France, Sweden, Ireland, Germany etc, all these places playing real vinyl, again it must be the folk I know, I don"t know of these laptop , cd, MP3 events????, never in My experience over many years..
  3. Looking for a clean cop of a Send him back... Pointer Sisters..
  4. In the same room??? Bring all the flock together, have a rare soul dj, a bootlegging bill and Larry the laptop?? Now I would like to be a fly on the wall at that event.. Maybe all 3 formats have been used at some of the large commercial events??????
  5. Is there a link to the final vote on soul source from the poll for Soul Boy?? Maybe good to compare as many talk of both films.... I ain't seen this new film, will vote when I do... As Pete Smith says, would be good to see some reviews from those that gave this a less than average vote as in the main it's been well received, always good to get a balance??? I can see why some would keep quiet in downgrading the film, certain characters just waiting to shoot you down... Let's have it , warts and all...
  6. Maybe it's just the places I have gone over the years... I don't know who plays other formats, must be just the folk i know... Don't feel like a snob or anything, just don't know any different... To go to a soul night from laptop or CDs or a box full of boots would be like eating dogs shit and drinking bin juice.. But as I said, that's just me I guess.. Happy if others get their pleasure this way buts it's not part of my world..
  7. With regards to splinters, maybe that came about because the focal point became like dry rot... Some mighty fine splinters where you don't get a prick.
  8. A very articulate post and one that will get you a 10 page reply.. You must have a tin hat on already...

  10. Don't sound like you need many others really to play, a few of you could cover an whole day with a bunch of CDs... If you are talking locals/ tourists then this ain't really the place to get feedback on a rare soul forum maybe... Maybe best just stick a notice board out and few posters and give it a go if there is already a decent tourist trade.
  11. In a word.... No.., So much on already.... Plus the cd aspect leaves me cold...But I do wish you well Steve.. Sunday chill outs are a nice way to finish the weekend.
  12. There is some country soul indeed.. I guess you mean 2 cu"ts from Preston...
  13. Round and round this topic goes... I have said before that much can be solved with certain promoters sitting down together and sorting in at all out..... That will not happen as many of them squabble like children in a playground.. Old driftwood needs washing away.....
  14. Yes they are, thats what promoters do.. Promotions... As to the topic title... Indeed toooooooooooooo many but its been said a thousand times..... Every man and his dog wants to be a promoter/ dj , who is to tell them no?? not you or me... We just have to get on with doing what we do and try and talk with other promoters and avoid a clash were possible for like minded folk...... Some promoters are beyond reason and any kind of morality but thats the way of the world.......
  15. Looking for a copy of Barbara Mason " you better stop it "
  16. Seems to be a regular thinn now i am sad to say... Aint it crazy, we bring out a box worth a small fortune and leave it behind decks while many of us get smashed, then come out of an event in the wee hours of the morning with all the late night animals lurking .... We like to keep it OVO and risk so much.. Hope you get em back my old mate... Steve...
  17. Tricky is the soul police now... Looks like I am going to prison
  18. Richie Havens all day long.. A very very special record for me...Love both versions but Richie touches my heart.. Love his acoustic version @ Woodstock also... Pub singer???? That's you off my Xmas card list...
  19. Thanks for sharing, it made my day...... My problem is available space , if i was a batchelor i would be looking at a collection of many thousands, somethings got to give when you share your home with others
  20. Glad to say i missed this Kev...... Out of mind and out of sight...x
  21. I have always enjoyed collecting tunes but always knew my budget,i collect for fun and most of my finds/ buys are cheap as chips, there are so many thousands of great tunes for £10/ 20 ... We had the chat last week Paul, do the same mate, find thousand of tunes for are cheap and will not break the bank but still give you a little treat.... You are still a young lad compared to many of us, your time now with growing family is an important time and trying to fit that in with trawling for hours on end... So i just buy for fun and don't have to hide my obsession/ bank balance from loved ones..... I like it that way... The real obsession with chasing tunes every spare second as never hit me, too many other things in life too.... Too many i know went crazy thinking they had to chase the next big thing for some kind of dick waving contest...
  22. ......... I ain't up with all this street talk, what is swalk, wol and Dfs??
