Big Records , Or Great Records Bought For Next To Nothing
Not sure if my find is up there with the big boys but a few days back I found a nice copy of Fred Hughes 'Don't Let this Happen to us' on Australian MCA for all of 3 bux...was looking through the boxes at an outer Metropolitan Melbourne record shop and it just turned up. Very happy with this find...for well under the price of a cup of coffee!

Just A Quick 'un This

Great Soul Buying Moments
I've had two goodies in two weeks. Last week I found a nice copy of Arthur Conley ' Take a step in my direction' on Atlantic sitting in a local record shop. The next week I picked up Len Barry ' our love' on UK RCA. Both nice finds. Quite a few bits and pieces floating about the crates of Melbourne at the moment.

Collecting British...why Bother?
Not sure I agree with you on this Chris. I'm only 21 and UK demos are still the top of my list when I have the money. I reckon they posess a kind og attractivness which makes them desirable reagrdless of age. Especially when they have a date and a mention of the US label on them...still I may the exception to the rule here and to be fair I will always buy aussie copies over anything...just love seeing local labels with obscure US artists on the front. Very intersesting thread!

Collecting British...why Bother?
Have to say that British labels are just so damn pretty...especially the demo's for tamla motown and stateside. I've just recently been biten by the British collecting bug...however in my case is has nothing to do with nostagia...I was born 20 years after most them were released and so for me there is no such emotion attatched...for me just having British releases and aussie ones too seems even more special than having the US copy....maybe for the reason that it seems hard to believe they got overseas release at all and so many of them have a real feeling of obsurity attatched... Just recently I have buying up British demo's of aussie groups from the 60's like the twilights and whilst not soul related it just gives me a real buzz to have them and look after them....the green and white Britsh Columbia demos just look fantastic. Its a similar feeling to the other night when my mate bought along his aussie copy of the metros - since I found my baby and it boggles the mind to think how a release that barley got the time of day in the US made it out to aus. anyhow thats my take on it.

Unexpectedly Good B Sides
two for me the other side of jerry fullers' double life , a tracked called turn to me gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. The other one is the b side of the charmaines track eternally on date , a little thing called 'if you ever'...probably my fav record in my box now. what a great feeling it is to find a cracking flip.

Good Tunes That Are Still Cheap To Buy
I'm with you on this one. Two good sides but the the mid tempo flip really is the business. On the topic of double siders , I picked up Jackie Wilson - The love is real / Love Uprising for about 7 bux the other day. What a cracking record , both sides deliver the goods.

Good Tunes That Are Still Cheap To Buy
artistics would be my number 6. can't get enough of this record...both sides.

Good Tunes That Are Still Cheap To Buy
1 Dells - Make Sure 2 Ruby Winters - Sweetheart thing 3 Presidents - I'm still dancing 4 Tyrone Davis - Turn back the hands of time 5 Cooking on 3 burners - This girl That would be my five ..though using US ebay I suspect that these 5 would come for 50 dollars rather than pounds. What would your five be mate? I would be interested to see what cheaper records people on here would concider there must haves. cheers , Daniel.

Top Tips For 2010
this is amazing. I listened to this stylistics record not 10 ten minutes ago for the first time in ages and also thought it sounded brill. 2 good sides for a record i picked up for 50p at leeds market last year. For me the record that is seriously underated and should be played more is the controllers ' is that long enough for you' on President. Also think The Precisons ' New York City' on ATCO is a go'er.

Small 45 Okeh?
This ' big/small okeh logo' saga concerned me when I first purchased this 45. I know the large symbol rule applies to many of the Okeh releases however I believe this 45 is an exception. i have never seen a copy with a large Okeh symbol. I'm no soul scholar but I'm 95% sure that this 45 even with a small okeh label is an orginal.

Guaranteed Floorfillers - What's Your Choice
Edwin Starr - time ...seems to fill all the floors at all the venues I have attended. For me personally...lorraine chandler - you only live twice would certainly do the trick.

Vietnam & Protest Soul
good call. Your right, Not so much a protest song but certainly highlights the impact of drafts on women at home.
-
Vietnam & Protest Soul
there appears to be a great many Vietnam related records. The only one I can add to this list would be La Shell & The Shellett - My soldier Boy on Eagle. ...two lovely sides that could not be more at odds with the events at hand.

Overlooked Flip Sides
For me it would have to be The b side of ' Eternally' by the Charmaines on date. A track called 'if your ever'.... I play this side much more. The other one would be the b side of ' I can take of leave your lovin' by Henry Boatwright on Capital. A track called ' I'm hung up on a dream'.. always thrilling to get a record in the mail and find it has a crackin b side.

Linda Jones And The Whatnauts - I'm So Glad I Found You

Linda Jones And The Whatnauts - I'm So Glad I Found You
Just a quick one. Just wondered what the going price is for Linda Jones and the Whatnauts ' I'm so glad that I found you' on Stang. Only heard it for the first time yesterday and if it's out of my price reach I'm gotta head one for the box...been singing it to myself all afternoon. Does anyone on here know what I might have to fork out for such a record?

Does Anyone Know This?
