INTERNATIONAL GTO's "I Love My Baby" (Rojac)
DJ’s if you want a 100% full on sixties stormer to reactivate then look no further than this little beauty. Check the soundfile – it sounds amazing when played out loud even more so when you haven’t heard it in ages? When was the last time you heard it played out? INTERNATIONAL GTO’s “I Love My Baby / It’s Been Raining In My Heart” (Rojac 1007) Bell Sound stamped original moulded label. Labels reversed so “It’s been raining” side plays “I love my baby”. Light surface mark across whole record not affecting play. Name in blue pen on label. Overall condition Excellent minus. £300 all in. YouTube clip added purely for reference (not taken from copy on sale): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJU8yQfckyU PM to reserve. Ta. Derek

Anything of interest on Record Store Day?
Record Store Day - what a great idea and it must be fantastic for people that like to acquire some of the unique records released specifically to tie in with this annual occasion. Must admit my knowledge of these RSD releases is pretty flimsy to say the least so can any of the more educated members on here suggest any releases which would be of interest to the soul fans on this forum? Or indeed fans of black music in general. Ta. Derek

Trying to find date of record releases
As well as Mister Flynn's rather excellent website it's worth a shot casting your eye over the 45cat website www.45cat.com which I always find to be very useful indeed. Derek

How much would it cost?
And once you've seen what Barnaby Bye actually looked like - it's even easier to dislike them. Derek

Jazz Funk / Disco - Rarest of the Rare
phew, blimey I wish you luck - there's no simple way 'round it - I look at and go through probably hundreds and hundreds of records on a weekly basis if I'm lucky and I learn summat new every time. Stuff I didn't know and have passed over several times over the last year or so I pick up nowadays and so on and so on and so on. I'm sure you know as well as I do that learning the ins and outs of a new genre is a very, very long road indeed - think how long it took you to acquire all that knowledge on music that you like and collect - never mind stuff you're not that keen on. They say knowledge is power and the first point of call would be to check completed UK listings of R&B/Soul 12" singles on Ebay on a regular weekly basis to get a feel of what sells and how much for. How much would it cost?
It's near guaranteed that in every new thread I read I learn summat new. In this thread I learnt several new things: (1) Barnaby Bye wasn't a solo singer (as I'd previously thought) they were a 4 man group. (2) Didn't know "Can't Live This Way" came out on the local label, Nimbus 9, prior to being picked up by Atlantic. (3) Paul Nicola won't want to buy the rare Atlantic Barnaby Bye issue I was going to offer him. Derek

Chuck Cockerham review in Blues and Soul
Many years ago at some all-nighter somewhere in the Midlands, an old buddy of mine John Weston and I were involved in a pretty deep conversation about the decline of the Scottish cod population throughout the years 1930-1950. Part way through the subject of vinyl records somehow filtered into the flow of things. I mentioned Chuck Cockerham. John said "Don't ever play the flip side - it's Country & Western". I was scarred mentally. And I've never mentioned it till now. It was my guilty secret. Tell me it's not true. Derek

Label Stickers and Stamps
After writing this a few days ago I must've started thinking about which people might have actually taken photographs of places like this way back in the early seventies. And the name I kept coming back to was John Anderson. As far as I know he was one of the first from the UK to start hoovering up old unwanted vinyl from across the states on an industrial level. For him it was business and I guess he was far too busy to even think about taking photographs. But I imagine photgraphs would have been taken by those in the early waves of Brits abroad as it would be like a dream come true for many. Oh to be surrounded by thousands of 45's in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Derek But until we actually see those photographs I guess we'll never know. They're out there somewhere I know it. A bit like original amateur video footage from the inside of Wigan Casino......or The Torch or even The Wheel.

Label Stickers and Stamps
Wow The Allstate Record Distributing Company in Chicago. When people often talk about wishing they had some sort of time machine which could transport them backwards through time here's a place I'd have loved to have spent a couple o' weeks wandering about in. Somewhere in this big wide world of ours somebody will have a drawer full of crumpled black n white photographs of this place (inside and out) but I ain't seen them yet. Even checked out those 'Memories From Old Chicago" forum type threads..... I thought I was the only odd ball that did this - phew thank you. Derek

So what is this record I'm trying to remember?
On first hearing I'm sure I can hear The Shangri-Las "Leader Of The Pack" on the intro of The Bonnets 45. The former was a big hit in 1964 and as a betting man I suspect the latter came out pretty soon afterwards. The Ronettes, The Bonnets - next you'll be telling me there's a Tonettes somewhere....... talk of the midlands, derby, november 1979
Remember going down in a van to this all-nighter with my mate Tim Robinson whoes face appears many times in my albums. Only recently completely out of the blue he said "I remember played Dane Valery "You don't know where you're interest lies" over and over on a tape all the way there and all the way back". I've absolutely no recollection of that. Ain't it surprising what some people remember?

stafford 1985
Great photo Tony - what was the record on Brunswick? At first glance I thought the other lad was a young Mister O'Connor from Scotland way not Chesterfield's favourite son. Derek
-
stafford - gaz kellett (holding the 45) and dave evison mid 80's
I spy with my little eye and say the record in Gaz's hand is on Venture. I'll gamble and bet it's The Naturelles "Love has joined us together". Hey up Mick hope you're well an' all that. Derek

Keb Darge & Little Edith's Legendary Wild Rockers Vol 3 -BBE Music
True. And considering that going out to a soul club should just be a simple enjoyable night out it probably always has been too serious for its own good. But it's that serious downright obsessive traits that has kept the soul scene going as long as it has whilst other scenes have been and gone. derek x

Record Boxes I have owned and loved
Over the years I've had loads of record boxes and never really thought much about them. But now they are getting so much harder to find I see them in a different light. I don't collect them as such though I usually take a picture of them before they say goodbye.
