Who was that by? (joke) 'Love is like an itching in my heart'-yes, yes, a brilliant track, but then it should be, since the Funk brothers were Playing.... Playing chart sounds; 'Ain't No Mountain H...' has been played at the 100 Club; The main issue is that there is so much rarer, and lesser known material, which is what is expected at 'Scene' nights. However, being too prescriptive is what eventually destroys people's enjoyment, of the scene, and with it, the scene, itself...

DID Ian Levine produce this???-I recall that it is on 'Jumping at the Go-Go' (?) So someone else must have thought it worthy, in some way... In any case, NS/Rare Soul covers a wide range of styles; there are some truly awful records in all of these genres; funny, I keep thinking of R&B, though.....

I have got the LP, (MFP), which has that track on it, I think. It is a very powerful version of this song; in addition, her version of 'yesterday' is very emotional. Re MP3, etc, I will see what I can do, but it may take some time...

Well said...I was interested to read all the comments about 8 Tracks-I have an 8-Track Player, for a car, from the 70s; anyone want to buy it? Re cassette tapes, 'waddabout when they stretched; some really psychedelic effects, then!!!! I have DJ'd. playing Vinyl and CD, together; best to remember, when switching mediums............ ..........................to switch channels!!!

Yes, indeed, it is, thanks for putting this track up....I was playing Barbara's version of 'My World is empty without you', yesterday; perhaps that is appropriate, at this time. At these times, I always recall what Martha Reeves said, when she mentioned Marvin and Tammi, at a 'Dancing in the Streets' Gig, in Kent: '....they're up there, singing .....in heaven.....' ....and so, now, is Barbara Mcnair; we do have her Musical Artistry, to remember her by.......

..so did I, and I've still got the LP....'Woman,Lover Thief' has got that indefinable thing,...atmosphere....whistful lyrics, slower tempo bridges.....that far-away, mysterious quality that many NS tracks have.... ..what more could the fans want?

....and Ken, this is another nice one-this is more like the speed I like.....
  11. .some of the speeling mastikes on here are pretty good-I liked the, very tacky, track by Eddie Holland: Jammie!!!!! ..and, on the tracklist of an MFP Northern Comp, the lesser known Harmony Group... The 'Untied Four' .....its all out there.....
  12. A few weeks ago, I heard a track: 'Lost Rythms'-'A' Train... Can someone clear up the correct Artist Name and Track Title Many thanks, in advance....
  13. I saw Edwin Starr (Charles Hatcher) three times, twice in Medway, and once, at the Jazz Cafe, in London. At the Jazz cafe (11/02) I recall him telling the audience to 'Keep the faith', and, down at the front, we were, in the audience , all shaking hands with him. He also appeared on Jools Holland's 'Later with..' prog., and I recall him reminiscing on Family Groups, in music, on another TV Prog, at the beginning of the '00s. He was a Brilliant Performer, and knew so much about Motown, and the Soul Music Scene-his death was a geat loss to us all, and the World of Music, generally. As a consolation, we do,at least, have his music, as a way of remembering him.
  14. ......contemporary issue? this thread is very interesting, from an academic PoV, but one has to ask......D.R.M.???

'My hang up is you'-The Skullsnaps; Funky?-as with much of many Art Forms, it is all in the perception, of any one person; I certainly wouldn't call this 'Funky' 'I'm you pimp'-yes, funky, but 'my Weakness..' is a bit of ,smooth, 70s Style, soul-Pure Brilliance!
  16. ....I'd probably like most, if not all, of them, and have some of them on var. comps, and even have: Twine Time-Alvin Cash & The Crawlers. ..And.. Master-key Harold Burrage. ..on vinyl......

does it really matter???; we all have different tastes, which is why there are so many different genres of music. There are tracks, which crossover, between soul and funk; does that matter? ..It's whats in the groove that counts......
  18. The Ann Nesby Track is better than the Ron Carroll track, which was a bit bland-neither of them come up to the level of Ron Hall and the Motherfunkers-'the way you love me' https://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProduct...&sku=511667 ....unfortunately no vocals, on the sample, but that's IT in stoopid handz fer yer!
